Conventionally, carbon tool steel,
Heat-treated alloy tool steel, die steel, etc., or castings such as cast iron and copper-aluminum alloys were used. In addition, especially for large press molds, we use a copper-aluminum alloy with excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, and slip properties on the surface of an inexpensive mold base material such as steel that has been roughly machined to the approximate shape of the mold. Fill it with meat,
Methods of manufacturing molds that are inexpensive and have excellent performance are also used.

Among the above, carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel, die steel, etc. require heat treatment after rough machining and subsequent troublesome grinding, and grinding the inner surface of the mold is particularly difficult for irregularly shaped molds. be. In addition, cast iron and copper-aluminum alloys require casting,
Cast iron lacks wear resistance, and copper-aluminum alloys have excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, and slip resistance, but have the disadvantage of being expensive. Furthermore, in the method of overlaying copper-aluminum alloy on the surface of steel, it is necessary to rough-machin the inner surface of the mold in advance.
When applied to foreign material molds, it has drawbacks such as difficulty in overlaying the inner surface of the mold, and in the case of small-sized molds, it is impossible to overlay the inner surface of the mold.

This invention was made in order to eliminate the drawbacks of the conventional ones as described above, and it uses a copper-aluminum alloy with excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, and slip properties in necessary parts of the base metal such as steel. After overlaying the metal, the base metal is cut out into a predetermined shape as a mold along the forming area of the overlay metal using a cutting method that does not require finishing, such as wire cutting, for easy press processing. The purpose is to provide a method for manufacturing molds.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. In FIG. 1, 1 is an inexpensive and strong base metal such as SS41 or S45C, and 2 is an overlay metal such as a copper-aluminum alloy having excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, and slip properties.

The manufacturing method of the mold is extremely simple; as shown in Fig.
After overlaying only the necessary portions of overlay metal 2, the base metal 1 is wire-cut into a predetermined shape as a mold (the same applies to the following figures indicated by the dashed line in the figure) along the forming area of overlay metal 2. By cutting by a cutting method that does not require post-processing, such as a cutting method, and cutting the upper surface of the overlay metal 2, a mold as shown in FIG. 2 is obtained. If the mold is a die for press working, the die R portion is further processed.

If the above-mentioned processing is performed, this mold can be fully used as a press die or a wrinkle presser. In press working, relative slippage with the workpiece material occurs at the upper surface and die R portion of the die, and only at the upper surface of the wrinkle presser. However, all parts of the mold are made of metal with excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, or slip properties.

If the die R is larger than the thickness of the overlay metal that can be overlaid in one layer, or if wear resistance is required deeper into the die inner surface than the die R part, two or more layers of overlay should be applied. Alternatively, as shown in the cross-sectional view of FIG. 3, grooves may be formed only in necessary portions on the upper surface of the base metal 1, and multilayers may be formed in these portions.

Submerged arc welding and MIG welding are possible overlay welding methods, but in terms of the quality of the overlay metal,
Reverse polarity soft plasma overlay is most suitable. As is well known, in reverse polarity soft plasma overlay, there is almost no macroscopic penetration during overlay welding, so it is possible to obtain almost pure overlay metal with only one layer of overlay. Therefore, an excellent mold can be obtained without deteriorating quality such as a decrease in hardness of overlay metal as seen in other welding methods. Also,
Thermal spray overlay can also be considered, but the overlay metal becomes porous and the quality of the mold is not good. Furthermore, thermal spraying is a method of overlaying the entire surface, and for example, the overlay metal is porous and the quality of the mold is poor. It is unsuitable for overlaying, and it is also disadvantageous from the point of view of saving materials.

As for the cutting method, the wire cut cutting method is excellent as it allows high-precision cutting without the need for post-processing. It also has a significant labor-saving effect as it can operate unmanned even at night.

In the above embodiments, the overlay metal is a copper-aluminum alloy, but any other metal may be used as long as it has excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, or slipperiness. Furthermore, although a wire cut method is shown as a cutting method, any cutting method that does not require post-processing of the cut surface, such as a laser cutting method or a plasma cutting method, may be used.

As described above, according to the present invention, an overlay metal with excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, or slipperiness, such as a copper-aluminum alloy, is overlaid on the necessary parts of an inexpensive and strong base metal such as steel. After that, the base metal is cut along the area where the overlay metal will be formed using a cutting method that does not require post-processing, such as wire cut cutting, so there is no need for heat treatment, grinding, or casting, and it is also possible to overlay the inner surface of the mold. It is possible to extremely easily produce a press mold with excellent wear resistance, seizure resistance, or slipperiness without any problems.
