Inkjet recording is noiseless, can perform high-speed recording, and can use plain paper for recording, so it has been adopted in terminal printers and has become rapidly popular in recent years. Furthermore, by using a large number of ink nozzles, it is easy to perform multicolor recording, and multicolor inkjet recording using various inkjet recording methods is being studied.

Inkjet recordings made using conventionally known aqueous inks on conventionally known inkjet recording sheets as described above have almost no water resistance, as the dye recordings smear or disappear when exposed to water. Furthermore, if stored for a long period of time in a high humidity condition, inkjet recordings may smear.

If the inkjet recording paper contains dye dyeing components and the amount of ink ejected is small, such as in monochrome inkjet recording, it may be possible to obtain practically acceptable water resistance by choosing a dye with good water resistance. be. However, in the case of multicolor inkjet recording, a large amount of ink is ejected, and even if the inkjet recording paper contains a dye-dyeable component, sufficient water resistance cannot be obtained. Particularly when inkjet recording paper is to be displayed outdoors, strong water resistance is required, and conventional multicolor inkjet recording using a combination of inkjet recording paper and ink has been completely impractical.

After inkjet recording with water-based ink on an inkjet recording sheet, the present inventors applied a water-resistant agent to the inkjet recording sheet to form a lake through ionic or coordinate bonds with the dye in the water-based ink to make it water-insoluble. It has been found that a high degree of water resistance can be obtained extremely easily by doing so.

When inkjet recording is performed on an inkjet recording sheet using aqueous ink containing direct dyes or acidic dyes, sulfones in the dyes can be removed by adding cationic substances such as water-soluble metal salts and cationic polymers as water-resistant agents. A water-insoluble dye lake is formed with anionic groups such as acid groups and carboxyl groups, making the inkjet recorded image waterproof. If the aqueous ink contains a basic dye, an anionic substance such as phosphotungsten molybdic acid and tannin is added as a water-resistant agent to form a water-insoluble dye lake with cationic groups such as amino groups in the dye. The inkjet recorded image is made water resistant.

Suitable methods for applying the waterproof agent to the inkjet recording sheet include spraying, roll coating, gravure coating, and the like. It is also possible to spray the waterproofing agent from an inkjet nozzle used for inkjet recording. In this case, the waterproofing agent can be selectively applied only to the inkjet recording area. After applying the waterproofing agent, it may be dried using hot air, infrared rays, etc., if necessary.

The amount of water resistant agent applied is 5 g/m 2 ~ 50 as a solution.
g/m 2 , but if the applied amount is too large, the inkjet recorded image may smear, so it is better to apply as little as possible. To prevent bleeding, it is desirable to increase the amount of water-miscible organic solvent.
