The present invention relates to an apparatus for determining the state of microorganisms in order to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment using microorganisms, fermentation using microorganisms, production processing using microorganisms, and the like. Various bacteria and microorganisms exist in sludge during water treatment, but the effectiveness of sewage treatment varies depending on the state of microbial reproduction, and whether activation is in a good state or is on the decline. When filamentous fungi proliferate, activated sludge may not settle and a bulking phenomenon may occur. In order to improve the effectiveness of sludge treatment, it is necessary to quickly and accurately detect the sludge condition and its changing tendency and control it properly. In view of these points, the present invention proposes a device for accurately detecting the state of microorganisms, which irradiates ultrasonic waves to water being treated in a biological treatment tank and detects reflected waves and scattered waves from microorganisms in the water. , or a device for detecting transmitted waves, a device for discriminating detection signals into at least two types, and a device for comparing the discrimination signals to determine the state of microorganisms. Microorganisms in water can be broadly classified into animals and plants, but if we classify them including protists,
