Conventionally, printing methods using pads are suitable for printing on the surface of a target substrate even if it is somewhat distorted, and are therefore widely used as a method for printing on the surface of a curved object. However, since general pad printing is configured to mainly print single-color designs, it is necessary to use a special method if you want to print designs in two or more colors. Such methods include (1) a method of using multiple plates or pads for painting (see, for example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 12450/1983); that is, creating several plates for each color that makes up the design, and applying individual markings to each plate; A method of sequentially applying various colors to a base material using a painting pad to form the original design, and (2) using a transfer material to transfer the design of the transfer material to the surface of a heat-resistant base material using the pad. Method (Refer to Japanese Patent Publication No. 53-43331) In other words, a transfer material provided with two types of adhesive layers having different adhesion forces at two different temperatures on the upper and lower sides of the pattern is brought into pressure contact with the pad at a first temperature. There is a method of applying the design to the base material by transferring the design of the transfer material to the pad and then bringing the pad into pressure contact with the surface of the heat-resistant base material in a second temperature state.

However, each of the above methods has the following drawbacks. In other words, in (1), it is necessary to stamp the pad multiple times to apply one design,
As a result, since the pad is an elastic material, it is impossible to accurately register the design, so it is impossible to create a detailed multicolored design. In (2), it is necessary to heat the base material to a high temperature in the process, so it can only be printed on heat-resistant base materials such as ceramics, and it is impossible to apply it to non-heat-resistant base materials.

In view of the drawbacks of the conventional methods as described above, the present inventors
As a result of various considerations, we have completed a multicolor printing method using pads that allows detailed multicolor designs to be easily applied not only to heat-resistant substrates but also to non-heat-resistant substrates. It is something.

The printing method of the present invention consists of four steps. The first step is a step of preheating the transfer material.
The transfer material used is one in which a wax layer is formed on a base sheet, and a pattern made of heat-sensitive adhesive ink is formed on the wax layer. The base sheet of the transfer material may be paper such as high-quality paper or coated paper, or film such as polyethylene terephthalate, which is used in ordinary heat transfer materials. The wax layer is formed by applying wax onto the base sheet. The waxes used include, for example, modified montan wax, paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, or mixtures thereof, which soften at temperatures of 80° C. or higher. Wax that softens at 80° C. or lower is not preferred because the heat required for drying the pattern on the transfer material when printing it may cause the pattern to collapse. Further, the pattern layer is formed using heat-sensitive adhesive ink by methods such as gravure, screen printing, and offset printing. The ink used is the wax layer 2.
It must exhibit adhesive properties at temperatures at which it softens. For example, 50 to 100
Polyamide-based, neoprene-based, which exhibits adhesive properties at °C.
Acrylic adhesives can be used. The transfer material is preheated at a temperature at which the wax layer 2 is softened and the heat-sensitive adhesive ink exhibits adhesive properties.

The second step is a step in which the transfer material preheated in the first step and the painting pad 4 are brought into pressure contact with each other, and the design 3 of the transfer material is transferred to the surface of the painting pad (Fig. 1, (See Figure 2). Since the pattern 3 of the transfer material is preheated in the first step, it exhibits adhesive properties and the wax layer 2 is softened and is in a state where it is easily peeled off, so that the pattern 3 is transferred to the surface of the painting pad after pressure contact.

The third step is a step of preheating the surface of the substrate to a temperature at which the heat-sensitive adhesive ink exhibits adhesive properties by bringing the heating pad 5 into pressure contact with a necessary portion of the surface of the substrate to be printed. (See Figure 3). The heating pad 5 is heated in advance. This heating may be done from the outside, or a heater may be provided inside the heating pad 5 for heating. By bringing the thus heated heating pad 5 into pressure contact with the surface of the base material, the surface of the base material is heated. At this time, the surface temperature of the heating pad 5 must be set so that the temperature of the substrate surface is as follows. That is, in the fourth step after the substrate surface is heated, it is necessary to set the temperature to such a level that the heat-sensitive adhesive ink exhibits adhesive properties.

The fourth step is the step of applying a decoration to the surface of the base material by bringing the painting pad onto which the design has been transferred into pressure contact with the preheated surface of the base material (see FIG. 4). In this step, the surface of the base material is preheated to a temperature at which the pattern exhibits adhesive properties, so that it is brought into pressure contact with the painting pad, thereby adhering the pattern and painting.

Since the present invention is a multicolor printing method using the pads as described above, it is possible to form a detailed pattern on the surface of a curved object, and the following effects can also be obtained. First, since the surface of the substrate is heated using a heating pad, non-heat resistant substrates can also be targeted. In other words, in the conventional pad printing method using transfer paper, the base material must be kept at about 80°C during painting, which causes the base material to soften when molded from polyethylene, vinyl chloride, etc., making it difficult to print. The target was limited to heat-resistant base materials. On the other hand, in the present invention, since the heating pad is used to preheat only the necessary areas, the above-mentioned problem does not occur, and therefore printing can be performed even on non-heat resistant substrates. Furthermore, since the surface of the base material can be preheated only to the necessary portions, thermal efficiency is good, and the simple process is suitable for mass production.
