Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、超音波を利用してヒートシールを行
ない容器を製造する方法の改良に関する。
たとえば断面正四角形の紙製容器であつて、少
なくとも内面、通常は表裏両面にポリエチレンな
どのヒートシール可能なプラスチツク材料の層を
有するものは、各種の食品とくに牛乳、清涼飲
料、果汁、酒類のような液体の容器として、広く
用いられている。
従来、この種の容器の製造に当つて、底板もし
くは蓋材、または底材と蓋材の両方をとりつける
には、少なくとも内面にヒートシール可能なプラ
スチツク材料の層を有する紙を第1図に示すよう
に組み合わせ、各辺を熱板で溶融シールすること
が行なわれている。しかし、この方法は容器のコ
ーナー部分に対しては加圧が不十分となつてシー
ル不良を生じやすいため、完全密封容器を得るに
は適しない。この問題は、第2図Aに示すよう
な、ヒートシール層を有する紙を絞つてつくつた
底材を用いても、あまり改善されない。
コーナー部分のシール不良を少なくする意図
で、プラスチツク材料のインジエクシヨン成形や
シート真空成形などで底材を用意することも試み
られたが、シールに際して熱板からの熱による成
形品の変形が大きく、実用上好ましい製品を得る
のは困難であつた。また、底材などが厚味のある
ときは大きな加熱熱量を要し、従つてヒートシー
ルに時間がかかるという弱点もあつた。
本発明者は、超音波のエネルギーを利用して、
上記の多角筒状の容器本体と底材または蓋材との
ヒートシールを行なうことを研究した。超音波に
よれば、熱板を使用する方法とちがつて、シール
すべき界面においてしか発熱が起らないから、底
材などの熱による変形はほとんど生じない。
従つて、上記のインジエクシヨン成形品やシー
ト成形品が安心して使える。また、シール所要時
間も短くてすむ。
ところが、超音波シールも、コーナー部分のシ
ールが決して確実とはいえないことを経験した。
本発明は、超音波を利用したシールによる容器
の製造方法におけるこの問題を解決した技術を提
供することを目的とする。
上記のコーナー部分のシールが不確実となる原
因を追求して、本発明者は次の事実を知つた。す
なわち、超音波による発熱は発振ホーンと受け台
とにはさまれた領域でしか起らないところ、受け
は多角形の各辺の内のりより少し小さいから、コ
ーナー部分ではほとんど融着が起らないことにな
る。
超音波による発熱が起らない部分にも融着を及
ぼすには、熱により溶融したときに流動性が高い
プラスチツク材料を使用し、辺において溶融した
プラスチツクがコーナー部分にも流れて行くよう
にすればよい。
このような着想から出発して、本発明者は、プ
ラスチツク材料として種々のポリエチレンをえら
んで次のような実験を行なつた。すなわち、第3
図に示すように、ポリエチレンのインジエクシヨ
ン成形により製造した底材4にポリエチレンでコ
ートした紙2を重ね、超音波発振ホーン5と受け
台6との間にはさんで加圧下に超音波による加熱
を行ない、加圧の行なわれる端部から外側にどの
くらいの長さまで溶融ポリエチレンが流れて行く
かをしらべた。
その結果、受け台6と底材のシール片41との
間のあそびAを0.5mm以下にし、底材のシール片
の厚みBが0.1〜1.5mmのとき、超音波の平均出力
600Wおよび1400Wの発振機を用い、加圧200〜
750Kg/cm2の条件でシールした場合に、密度0.945
g/cm3以下であつてメルトインデツクス5.0〜
20.0のポリエチレンを底材に使用すれば、溶融流
れの長さLが2.0mmに達することを知つた。そし
て、物性値が上記の範囲に入らないポリエチレン
では、この溶融流れの長さが2.0mm至らないこと
がたしかめられた。
受け台と底材シール片との間のあそびを上記の
ように0.5mm以下に管理することは実際上容易で
あり、シール片の厚みは1.5mm止まり、通常は1.0
mm以下であるから、上記の溶融流れの長さ2.0mm
は、辺の加熱により生じた溶融ポリエチレンがコ
ーナー部分にまで回り込み、コーナー部分のシー
ルを完全にするのに十分な値である。実際の工程
においては、容器本体と底材のシール片との、加
圧下に超音波を受ける組に隣接した組の間のあそ
びも問題になるが、これは底材の設計によつて通
常は実質上ゼロにすることが可能であるし、そし
あそびが生じても高々0.5mm以内に止めることは
容易である。加えて、コーナー部分への溶融ポリ
エチレンの流入は、そのコーナーを形成する二辺
の両方から行なわれるので、厚み1.0〜1.5mmの厚
手のシール片をもつた底材を使用しても、コーナ
ー部分のシールは確実である。
以上の説明から必然的に規定されるように、本
発明の超音波を利用して容器を製造る方法は、底
材または蓋材のヒートシール可能なプラスチツク
材料として、密度0.945g/cm3以下、通常は0.910
〜0.945g/cm3であつて、かつメルトインデクス
5.0〜20.0であるポリエチレンを使用する。
本発明は、図示したような四角筒状の容器に限
らず、正六角筒状その他、種々の断面形状のもの
に適用できることはもちろんである。
実施例 厚さ400μの紙の内面に40μのポリエチレン層を
有するものを材料として、正四角筒状の容器本体
をつくつた。
別に、密度0.920g/cm3、メルトインデクス
10.0の底密度ポリエチレンをインジエクシヨン成
形し、シール片の厚み1.0mmの底材および蓋材を
用意した。
周波数20KHz、振幅50μ、平均出力600Wの超音
波振動を、接触圧力500Kg/cm2で0.75秒間与えて、
一辺をヒートシールした。このとき、受け台と底
材シール片との間のあそびは0.2mm、またシール
片と容器本体との間のあそび(シールされる辺に
隣接する辺における)も0.2mmであつた。
同様にして他の三辺をもシールして得た製品
は、各辺および各コーナー部分を通じて欠陥のな
い、完全なものであつた。

第1図は、筒状容器の底材または蓋材のとりつ

は、本発明において好都合に使用される底材また
は蓋材の例の断面図である。第3図は、本発明の
完成に至る実験の概要を説明するための、超音波
シール時の状況を示す横断面図である。 1……容器本体、2……ポリエチレンコート

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 1 少なくとも内面にヒートシール可能なプラス
    チツク材料の層を有する紙からなる多角筒状体
    に、上記内面に対する面にヒートシール可能なプ
    ラスチツク材料の層を有する底材および(また
    は)蓋材を、超音波を利用してヒートシールする
    ことからなる多角筒状容器を製造する方法におい
    て、上記底材または蓋材のヒートシール可能なプ
    ラスチツク材料として、密度0.945g/cm3以下で
    あつてメルトインデクス5.0〜20.0であるポリエ
    チレンを用いてコーナー部分にまで確実なシール
    を行なうことを特徴とする方法。
