In order to make the manual reading device travel in a straight line, the present applicant previously proposed a plate-shaped travel guide aid 1 as shown in FIG. This travel guide aid 1
is equipped with an opening 2 having a width L equivalent to the reading width of a manual reading device, and when reading a document, the auxiliary tool 1 is used to open the document so that the image information to be read appears in the opening 2. Then, a manual reading device is sub-scanned along the opening 2 to read the image information appearing in the opening 2. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a manual reading device suitable for use with the above-mentioned travel guide aid, viewed from the bottom; in the figure, 5 is a housing of the manual reading device;
is the bottom plate, 6 is the reading window, 7 and 8 are the running rollers,
These running rollers 7 and 8 are rotatably held within the housing 5 by bearings (not shown). Further, the length of the running roller 7 in the rotation axis direction is made longer than the reading width L so that the running roller 7 runs in contact with the surface of the running guide auxiliary tool 1.
The running roller 8 is connected to the opening 2 of the running guide aid 1.
Its length in the rotational axis direction is slightly shorter than the reading width L so that its running direction is regulated by
-ΔL, and the running roller 8 rotates with its peripheral surface contacting the document surface through the opening 2 of the running guide aid 1. Therefore, the traveling guide aid 1 shown in FIG.
When the manual reading device is moved in the sub-scanning direction by inserting the manual reading device, the manual reading device travels in a straight line along the opening 2 of the traveling guide aid 1. It is easy to imagine that if the travel guide aid 1 shown in FIG. 1 is constructed using soft synthetic resin or the like, it will be possible to read documents with a curved reading surface well. However, when we actually traveled on a curved surface using a travel guide aid made of soft synthetic resin, we found that (1) when the manual reading device is tilted relative to the document surface, the document surface becomes illuminated; It is best to scan perpendicular to the document surface as much as possible, as the resolution decreases when the document is off-axis, but if the document surface is curved, it is difficult to keep the manual reading device perpendicular to the document surface. .

(2) It is preferable to keep the running speed as constant as possible, but there is a large difference between when running on an uphill slope and when running on a downhill slope.

FIG. 3 is an external view of a manual reading device, and the manual reading device generally consists of an operation button 10, a plotter connection cord 11, a housing 12 made of plastic, etc. houses a solid-state image sensor, an imaging lens, an illumination lamp, etc. (not shown), and as is well known, for reading in the main scanning direction, the light receiving elements are lined up in a line in the main scanning direction. Reading in the sub-scanning direction is performed by the solid-state imaging device by moving the manual reading device in the direction of the arrow. When an attempt is made to read a thick book such as a telephone directory or an encyclopedia using the above-mentioned manual reading device, for example, as shown in FIG.
The manual reader must be scanned along the curved surface 15. In principle, it is possible to read even such a curved surface without using any auxiliary tools, but in reality, the manual reading device 12, which should be in the posture A or C in FIG. , A' or C', and it becomes difficult to keep the manual reading device perpendicular to the document surface. Furthermore, the speed in the sub-scanning direction is different from point A to point B and from point B to point C, and the latter is inevitably faster. However, the manual reader is
Although it is designed to have a certain degree of freedom so that no problems will occur even if it is used at a slight angle or at varying speeds, it is highly likely that the limits will be exceeded in cases such as those described above. In that case, there was a drawback that good reading was no longer possible.

FIG. 5 is a plan view for explaining one embodiment of the curved surface traveling aid according to the present invention, and FIG. 6 is a partial side sectional view thereof. In the figure, 20 is a holder for holding a manual reading device. 21 is a traction member that pulls the holding member 20; 22 is a guide member that guides the movement of the holding member 20; 23 is a frame-like member that guides the traction member 21; 24 is the holding member 20 and the traction member 2;
1, and the guide member 22 is a connecting member that connects a plurality of arm-shaped members 22a to each other by a pin 22b, as shown in detail in FIGS. The holding member 20 has a cylindrical protrusion 20a (9th
(see figure) is provided with a groove 22c for guiding. In this way, a plurality of arm-shaped members 2 are arranged in the sub-scanning direction.
The guide member 22 to which the guide member 2a is connected is rotatably held by a frame member 23 near the center thereof by a pin 25. In addition, FIG. 10 is a partially enlarged detailed view for explaining the relationship between the traction member 21 and the frame-like member 23, and as shown in the figure, a groove 23a is provided on the side surface of the frame-like member 23, The groove 23a
The projection 21a of the traction member 21 is engaged with the traction member 21, and the traction member 21 is moved by the frame member 23 in the sub-scanning direction (in the direction of the arrow). The curved surface traveling aid constructed as described above is connected to the curved surface section 15.
When placed on top, as shown by the chain line in Figure 6,
The guide member 22 is bent at each connecting pin 22a and follows the curved surface, while the frame member 23 remains flat, and the protrusion 21a of the traction member 21 is inserted into the groove of the frame member 23. 23a, the connecting member 24 is attached to the traction member 21.
The holding member 20 connected via the cylindrical protrusion 20a is guided by the groove 22c of the guide member 22 and moved along the curved surface 15 of the document. If the distance between the cylindrical projections 20a is the same as the distance between each node of the guide member 22, that is, the distance between adjacent connecting pins 22b, the holding member 20 and the holding member 2
Since the manual reading device 12 placed on the document surface is moved along the document surface, it is always moved perpendicular to the document surface. Note that when the document surface is a curved surface, as shown in FIG. 6, at the start position and stop position of the manual reader holding member 20,
A height difference occurs between the guide member 22 and the frame member 23, but this height difference is
0 is connected via the connecting member 24, so there is no problem.

As is clear from the above description, when the manual reading device traveling aid according to the present invention is used, it is possible to read documents not only when the document surface is flat, but also when the document surface is curved or inclined in the middle. Even if it is,
It becomes possible to hold the manual reading device perpendicular to the document surface and run straight at a constant speed.
