Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a packing which can be used for multi-purpose and has reduced porosity and compression ratio and higher sealing performance by piling a plurality of flexible graphite sheets, cutting in the form of bands, twisting and compressing them in the spiral form. CONSTITUTION:Flexible graphite sheets 1 are cut into pieces, and a plurality of them are piled in the form of a band 2. Said band is twisted and compressed in a spiral form having the specified bore diameter, whereby making up a spiral packing 3. Since the spiral packing 3 is compressed in the spiral form, said packing 3 has no need to be bent when mounted on a packing box, and has some degree of freedom in axial expansion and contraction, reduced in both porosity and compression ratio and enhances the density varying according to both the porosity and compression ratio.
