Taro seed potatoes cannot be grown in good shape unless they are planted with their buds facing upwards. However, since most taro potatoes have a similar oval shape, it is difficult to plant them mechanically with the buds facing up. For this reason, planting taro seeds depended solely on human hands, and there were no practical machines available.
