Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a low-cost shrinkage reducer for cement capable of reducing the shrinkage of cement due to drying when added by a small amt. by using alcohol represented by a specified general formula. CONSTITUTION:This shrinkage reducer for cement is made of a mixture of one or more kinds of alcohols represented by a general formula ROH (where R is 4-6C alkyl or 5-6C cycloalkyl), reduces the shrinkage of cement due to drying when added by a small amt. and prevents the cracking of cement mortar and concrete due to drying. The alcohols may be butanol and cyclopentanol. This shrinkage reducer is generally used by about 0.5-10wt.% of the amt. of cement.

Cement that can be used with the shrinkage reducing agent of the present invention include ordinary Portland cement, special Portland cement (
These include early-strength Portland cement, medium-heat Portland cement), alumina cement, blast furnace cement, and fly ash cement, and are not affected by cement types. Furthermore, there are no restrictions on the type of aggregate, admixtures used together, and admixture materials. That is, it can also be used in combination with a water reducing agent for concrete, an air entraining agent, an expanding agent, a shrinkage reducing agent other than the present invention, and other known mortar or admixtures for concrete.

The amount of the shrinkage reducing agent of the present invention to be used varies depending on the number of carbon atoms in the alkyl group of the compound represented by the general formula (1), but is usually 0.5 to 10% by weight based on the cement. If the amount used is less than 0.5 mm%, the effect of reducing shrinkage will be small, while if it exceeds 10 ffi:ffi%, the strength of the cement composition will be about 273 or less compared to that without additives, which is not sufficient for practical use.

The means for adding the shrinkage reducing agent for cement according to the present invention can be used in the same manner as in the case of conventional cement admixtures. For example, an appropriate amount of a shrinkage reducing agent for cement may be mixed in advance with the mixing water, or it may be added to concrete once mixed. Furthermore, it may be allowed to penetrate into the surface layer of a hardened cement product.
