本発明は不変表示を鮮かな色彩で見られるよう

面に印刷していた。しかし、上偏光板の前面に黒
以外の色で印刷した場合、印刷表示と液晶表示と
の間の距離がやや長いため、見る方向によつて印
刷表示と液晶表示との関係位置がずれるという別

このように構成すれば、不変表示の印刷に用いた
半透明インクによる光の散乱およびしや断は少な
いので、偏光板および液晶層による旋光は損なわ
れず、インクの色がそのまま鮮かに表示され、不
変表示4aのように、黒い液晶表示に背景の地色
を印刷で重ね合わせることもできる。また印刷に
よる表示と液晶表示の間の距離が短いため、見る
方向による液晶表示と印刷表示との関係位置ずれ
も少ない。第1図bにおいては、半透明インクの
印刷による固定パターンは液晶セル1と下偏光板
3との間に形成されているが、該固定パターンは
液晶セル1と上偏光板2との間になされていても
