Description

【発明の詳細な説明】[Detailed description of the invention]

本発明は、定着ローラや定着プレート等の定着
部材にトナー像支持材を接触して搬送することに
より、像の定着処理をするようにした定着装置に
関する。 例えば、加熱された定着ローラでトナー像支持
材を加圧搬送し、その際の熱でトナーを溶融して
支持剤に定着させるように構成された定着装置で
は、溶融トナーが定着ローラに粘着したり、また
その粘着性によつてトナー像支持材がローラに巻
き付いたりする不都合を防止するために、定着ロ
ーラにテフロン(デユポン社・商品名)やシリコ
ーンゴムの離型性表面被覆を施したり、更にその
被覆にシリコーンオイルの如き離型液を塗布した
りしている。しかしテフロンやシリコーンゴムの
ような表面被覆は熱によつて次第に酸化する等し
て当初の離型性能が劣化していく。そのため、オ
フセツトやトナー像支持材の巻き付きが発生する
ようになつているが、これを防止するには、離型
液の塗布厚を増したりしなければならず、その場
合、液によるトナー像支持剤の汚れが発生するよ
うになる。またテフロンやシリコーンのような材
料は、トナー像を熱定着するに必要な170〜200℃
程度でも軟化してしまいそのため、トナー像支持
剤の加圧搬送を繰り返すにつれて表面が荒れてい
き、その傷の中にトナー材料が目詰まりして離型
性を劣化させるうえに、定着力も損つてしまこう
ことになる。さらに、例えば、耐熱性不織布など
により定着ローラをクリーニングする場合など、
ローラー表面と耐熱性不織布が摺動することによ
り、摩擦され、ローラ表面が摩耗したり、あるい
は表面が荒れたりする不都合もあつた。 このような理由で、前述の定着ローラは寿命の
短かい恐れがあつた。 そこで本発明の目的は、上述した従来装置の問
題点を解決することである。而して本発明の定着
装置は、トナー像支持材を定着部材に接触搬送さ
せて像の定着を行なう定着装置に於いて、上記定
着部材の表面を弗素樹脂により被覆する際、弗素
樹脂の中に窒化物のセラミツクを分散させること
を特徴とするものである。これによつて本発明は
離型性を劣化させることなく、耐摩耗性を向上さ
せた定着装置を提供するものである。 以下、図面を参照して本発明の一実施例を説明
する。 第1図は、本発明の一実施例を適用した定着装
置の断面図である。 図において、1は定着ローラで、金属、ガラス
あるいは樹脂等で形成された硬質芯パイプ2に、
窒化物のセラミツクスを分散させた弗素樹脂(こ
こで弗素樹脂としては、例えば4弗化エチレン樹
脂、PFA樹脂、あるいはFEP樹脂等)の被覆3
をほどこしたものである。またこのローラ1内に
は、ハロゲンランプの如き熱源4が配置されてお
り、これによつてローラ1表面はトナーを熱溶融
定着可能な温度、通常170〜200℃程度に加熱され
ている。また1aは加圧ローラで、剛性芯ロール
7にシリコーンゴムのような弾性体層8を厚く被
覆して成る。このローラ1aはバネ等(図示せ
ず)の弾性力によつてローラ1に圧接され、それ
によつて層8が変形してトナー像10を支持して
いる支持紙11を圧接するニツプ部を形成する。
なおローラ1,1aは夫々矢印方向(矢印a,b
方向)に回転し、ガイド9を通つて進入して来た
トナー像支持紙11を挟圧搬送し、その際、トナ
ー像10が加熱溶融定着される。そしてこのと
き、支持紙11の未定着トナー像支持面11a
は、ローラ1に密着せしめられ像の定着が行なわ
れわけである。そしてローラ1,1aのニツプ部
16を通過した紙11は、ガイド12に導びかれ
て定着装置外へ排出される。 また5は爪状の分離部材であり、定着ローラ1
に巻き付いた紙を分離するものである。また6,
13,14,15で構成される装置は、耐熱ウエ
ツプ6によるクリーニング手段である。このクリ
ーニング手段は6−6ナイロン等の不織布ででき
たウエツブ6を、ローラ13から巻き取りローラ
15に巻き取る途中で押さえローラ14により定
着ローラ1に押しつけ、定着ローラ1上のオフセ
ツトトナーやその他の不要物をクリーニングする
ものである。ウエツブ6の面が汚れると、ウエツ
ブ6が矢印方向に移動し、新しい面がローラ1表
面に摺擦するように構成されている。 なお本発明は、PFA樹脂の中に窒化硼素を5
〜10%分散させ、離型性、摩耗性等試験した結
果、以下のような効果のあることを確認した。 いま、PFA樹脂単体A、PFA樹脂に窒化硼素
を分散させたものB、PFA樹脂にNi金属粉を分
散させたものC、について試験した結果を表1に
表わす。

ができること勿論である。 また窒化物セラミツクスとして、窒化硅素,窒
化アルミニウム等を分散させても良好な結果が得
られる。 以上述べた様に本発明は、弗素樹脂の中に窒化
物のセラミツクスを分散させることにより耐摩耗
性、離型性を向上させた定着装置を提供するもの
である。

着装置。 4 前記弗素樹脂がPFA樹脂あるいはFEP樹脂
であることを特徴とした特許請求の範囲第1項に
記載の定着装置。
