Conventionally, particles of crushed cork, which has the excellent properties of natural products, especially the excellent coefficient of friction, have been compressed and bonded via adhesive and used to make friction plates for clutches such as industrial sewing machines and clutch facings for motors. It was widely used in brake shoes, etc. However, cork has low physical strength, and has disadvantages such as making noise when the clutch or brake is activated, producing a strange odor due to frictional heat, and shortening the life of the clutch due to abnormal wear caused by the clutch being partially engaged.

To solve this problem, cork particles are integrally molded with an adhesive, and the intergranular spaces of the cork friction material are impregnated with oil to improve wear resistance. Because cork particles were compressed and bonded using adhesives such as phenolic resin, urea resin, and vinyl acetate resin,
There are very few voids between cork particles and the adhesive,
Even if this is impregnated with oil by vacuum or pressure impregnation at room temperature or heating, the amount of oil impregnated is 10%.
% or less, the desired improvement in wear resistance cannot be obtained much, and most of the oil impregnation is concentrated on the surface of the friction material, and during long-term use, the oil on the surface is removed and only a small amount of oil remains. However, there was a drawback that the wear resistance was significantly reduced.

In the present invention, oil (not limited to vegetable oil or mineral oil) is added to a cork friction material obtained by integrally molding cork particles having an appropriate size, substantially 10 to 80 mesh, using an adhesive. This is a method of molding cork friction material by impregnating it.

In the present invention, a predetermined amount of cork grains and adhesive are put into a mold, and at the same time, a foam sheet such as a soft urethane sheet impregnated with a desired amount of oil is inserted into the top and bottom of the mold, or either one of them. When compressed, oil oozes out from the foam sheet and penetrates throughout the cork grains and the adhesive. In this permeated state, it is compressed and fixed.

Alternatively, when compressing a predetermined amount of cork grains and adhesive injected into a mold, a desired amount of oil is sprayed or injected from multiple nozzles provided on the inside of the mold, and the mixture is compressed and fixed. However, it is possible to mold a friction material impregnated with oil in the same manner as described above. As a result, a large amount of oil can be impregnated into the center between the cork grains of the cork friction material, allowing a large amount of oil to be impregnated into the center of the cork particles, which was not possible before, and a weight ratio of cork particles to cork particles suitable for use in clutch facings, brake shoes, etc. A cork friction material impregnated with oil at a weight ratio of 25 to 30% can be easily obtained. In addition, the amount of oil impregnated is suitably 15 to 50% by weight depending on the purpose and application of the cork friction material, and the most suitable is 25 to 30% by weight, but according to the present invention, the amount of oil in the foam sheet is Alternatively, this value can be easily obtained by controlling the amount of oil sprayed or injected.

First, as shown in FIG. 1, cork grains 1 refined into 30 to 70 meshes are mixed with an adhesive, and then poured into a mold 2 shown in FIG. At this time, a foam sheet 3 impregnated with a desired amount of oil is added together, or a desired amount of oil is sprayed or injected from a nozzle 4 provided in the upper mold 2a to compress the
is added to form a cork friction material having a density of 0.1 to 0.15 g/cm 3 before compression and 0.4 to 0.6 g/cm 3 after compression. By this method, the amount of oil impregnated is 0%, 5%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%,
45% and 60% cork friction materials were made respectively, and the friction coefficient and amount of friction were measured, as shown in Tables 1 and 2.
We obtained good numbers as shown in the graph.

Note that if the amount of oil impregnated is 60% or more, it cannot be retained inside the cork friction material and the oil will flow out, so it is virtually impossible to manufacture it.

Looking at the friction coefficient in Table 1, the decrease in the coefficient due to oil is very small, without impairing the friction characteristics, and in Table 2
As shown in the figure, the amount of wear due to the addition of oil is significantly reduced compared to the one with 15% impregnation, and its effect is clearly visible.

As described above, according to the present invention, due to the action of the oil impregnated between the cork particles and the adhesive, the wear characteristics can be significantly improved without impairing the friction coefficient, and the life of the cork friction material can be maintained for a long time. Not only that, but the distribution of oil is almost uniform, so even cork friction material obtained by machining by cutting from a block can have the same effect or excellent cork friction that cannot be obtained with conventional methods. This is a method of molding the material.
