The light scattered by the light scattering plate 5 provided on the surface facing the original 6 illuminates the transmission type original 6 from above, and the light transmitted through the reading point A is transmitted to the illumination lamp 4 and the original 6. An image of the point A is formed on the element surface of the reading element 3 via the reflecting mirror 1 and the reading lens 2, which are placed on opposite sides of the image, and reading of this point A is performed.

Further, due to the structure of the transmissive type document reading device, it is not possible to correct the warpage by pressing the document with a normal document pressing plate as in the case of a reflective type document reading device.

The light transmitted through the reading point A passes through the illumination lamp 4 and the reflection mirror 1 placed on the opposite side of the original 6, and the reading lens 2, and then reaches the element surface of the reading element (for example, CCD) 3. An image of the point A is formed at , and this point A is read.
Then, the light scattering plate 5, the original 6, and the original table 7 are moved in the direction of arrow B, and as a result of this movement, the original 6
The whole is read by the reading element 3. Note that 4A is a cover for the illumination lamp 4.

いる。 As mentioned above, at a predetermined position on the side of the document table 7 facing the illumination light 4, there is a cutout portion 8A approximately equal to the size of the transmission type original 6, and approximately equal to the thickness of the transmission type original 6. A thick film 8 of a predetermined size is placed (see FIG. 2), and the original 6 is placed within the cutout 8A of the film 8.
A light scattering plate 5 is placed directly on the film 8 and the original 6, and the light scattering plate 5 presses the transmission type original 6 onto the original table 7. The light scattering 5 is provided to have approximately the same size as the film 8.

A phototransistor 9 is disposed at a lower position, and when the transparent portion 8B moves to the reading point A during reading of the original 6, scattered light passes through the film 8 and enters the phototransistor 9. The reading start timing is set at the rising edge of the output. The relationship between the output Vp of the phototransistor 9 and the read timing signal TM is shown in the time chart of FIG.

Furthermore, by using the light scattering plate as the document holding member, the structure is simple and can be implemented at low cost. Furthermore, the film with the cutout allows the transmissive original to be always placed in a predetermined position, and by making the film opaque, it is possible to prevent unnecessary light from entering the device. Furthermore, by making a part of the film transparent, the timing of reading start and end can be accurately obtained.
