For example, when painting the body of a cab-over type truck as shown in Fig. 7, the area indicated by the symbol B is painted using side painting gun B located at an intermediate position. Paint is also sprayed into the space B1 in the same manner as in the body part B0 , and the paint scattered in the air in this part is wasted. Furthermore, when painting a passenger car in two-tone color with upper and lower parts as shown in Figure 8, a masking part M is provided and the part indicated by the symbol B is painted with a side paint gun B at an intermediate position. However, in this case, the paint is sprayed on the masking part M as well as on the body part B0 , so

[Means for Solving the Problems] The present invention is an automatic painting method for automobile bodies in a painting line, in which one side painting gun reciprocates in the vertical direction with an automatically variable arbitrary stroke length. We installed one automatic painting device on each side of the vehicle body conveyance device, which can be fixed automatically at any position in the vertical direction, to match the painting area of the vehicle body. Provided is an automatic method for painting an automobile body, characterized in that painting is performed by a combination of reciprocating the side painting gun at the arbitrary stroke length and fixing it at the arbitrary position.

[Function] When using the automatic painting method of the present invention, it is possible to reciprocate the side painting gun in the vertical direction, and therefore, by adjusting the stroke of the reciprocating movement, the coating width in the vertical direction can be widened. It can be made narrower and can be fixed at any position during reciprocating movement. Therefore, paint can be sprayed only on the automobile body or only on necessary parts of the body with one paint machine on each side, and paint loss can be reduced.

The automatic painting apparatus shown in FIG. 1 includes side painting guns 1, which are arranged on both sides of the painting line in the direction of movement (in the direction of the arrow). The side painting gun 1 is configured to be reciprocated up and down by a reciprocating drive device 2 and can be fixed at any position during the reciprocating movement. Note that Z is an automobile body, and 3 is a conveyor for moving the automobile body Z in the direction of the arrow. The reciprocating drive device 2 includes a side painting gun 1.
A drive mechanism and a guide mechanism are provided for reciprocating the stroke up and down, and a controller is provided for changing the stroke to a longer or shorter stroke and for fixing it at an arbitrary position. The drive mechanism and guide mechanism need not be special, and may be constructed by known mechanical means. Further, the controller may also be constructed using known electrical or mechanical means.

In the case of a cab-over type truck as shown in FIG. 2, the truck is divided into a cab part Z1 and a cargo bed part Z2, and when painting the cab part Z1, the side painting gun 1 is moved by a reciprocating drive device 2. Then, when painting the loading platform part Z2, the side painting gun 1 is fixed near the center of the side surface of the loading platform part Z2. In FIG. 2, a line L is a locus of movement of the side painting gun 1 relative to the automobile body Z, a point P1 means a starting point of painting, and a point P2 means an end point of painting (the same applies hereinafter).

In the above, when painting the driver's cab part Z1, the stroke of the reciprocating drive device 2 is controlled to be long S1 or short S2 in accordance with the upper edge of the tire house. By doing so, the paint is sprayed only on the body of the car, and there is no waste such as spraying the paint under the tire housing.

Furthermore, when painting the loading platform part Z2, since the side painting gun 1 is fixed near the center of the side surface, there is no waste of spraying paint on areas other than the body part.

[Effects of the Invention] When using the automatic painting method of the present invention, the number of coating machines can be reduced, and paint can be sprayed only on the automobile body or only on desired parts of the automobile body in accordance with the side shape or coating pattern of the automobile body. As a result, paint loss during painting can be reduced. Furthermore, because the number of paint machines required is small, the amount of paint and cleaning thinner that must be disposed of each time a color is changed is also reduced.
