路17内には、プリント基板16に設置される無
指向性の光源18から発散光が与えられる(光源
18はパネル11の広さに応じた数だけ設置され
る)。又、拡散路17内には、パネル本体13に
支持されるキートツプ19a乃至19dが設置され
る。キートツプ19a乃至19dは光透過性部材で
構成されており、一端はパネル本体13の表面に
所定のレイアウトで設置され、他端はプリント基
板16に設置されるタクトスイツチ20a乃至2
dに接触する。タクトスイツチ20a乃至20d
はプリント基板16の回路(図示せず)と電気的
に接続されており、キートツプ19a乃至19d
よつて切替えられる。

この拡散面12に向けられた光は、以後反射面1
5と拡散面12の間で反射を繰返しながら(多重
反射しながら)拡散路17全域に広がる。この多
重反射中にキートツプに到達する光や光源18か
ら直接キートツプに到達する光は、キートツプ1
a乃至19dを光路としてパネル本体13の表面
にでてシート14を透過する。一方、多重反射に
よる光の一部は拡散面12からパネル本体13内
に入り、光源18からの直接光で乱反射せずにパ
ネル本体13内に入る光と共にパネル本体13内
で内部反射を繰返しながらパネル本体13の端
(ランプ18から離れた位置)に拡散する。この
とき内部反射を繰返す光の一部はパネル本体13
を透過してシート14に向かう。シート14に到
達する光はシート14の面に沿つて拡散すると共
にその一部が透過する。従つて、拡散路17を拡
散し、キートツプ19a乃至19d及びパネル本体
13を光路とする光によつてパネル11が照明さ
れる。このようにシート14を透過する光は、拡
散路17で拡散されたうえに、パネル本体13、
シート14等でも拡散されているので、パネル1
1は影がなく、かつ、均一に照明される。よつ
て、キートツプや文字等は均一に浮きでた感じで
照明される。パネル11の明るさやそれのむら
は、パネル本体13とキートツプ19a乃至19d
の透過率の度合を適宜選ぶことによつて加減する
ことができる。
