本発明は少なくとも一方がプラスチツクフイル

<従来技術>

貼り合わせ該基板間に液晶を充填してなる液晶表
示素子の製造工程においては、2枚の薄いプラス
チツクフイルム基板間の周縁にシール材を印刷す
ると共にその間〓全面にスペーサを分散し更にプ
レス板を用いて2枚の薄いプラスチツクフイルム

しかし従来、上記プレス板としては表面の滑ら
かなガラス板が用いられている為にプラスチツク
フイルム基板とガラス板とが密着し、該密着した
ままでプラスチツクフイルム基板間のシール材の
硬化を行なう為に加熱を行なうと、プラスチツク
フイルム基板の熱膨張の為にプラスチツクフイル
ム基板とガラス基板との間の密着部分と密着して
いない部分との間にストレスがかかつた。そして
その結果プラスチツクフイルム基板にカール、う
ねりが生じたり、プラスチツクフイルム基板自体
に異常な光学異方性が発生し、その為液晶表示素

一実施例の製造工程を示す説明図である。同図で
1,1は厚みが0.1mm程度の薄いプラスチツクフ
イルム基板である。この2枚の薄いプラスチツク
フイルム基板1,1の間の周縁にはシール材2が
印刷され、その間〓全面にはガラスフアイバー等
のスペーサー3が分散されている。4,4は上記
2枚の薄いプラスチツクフイルム基板1,1に対
して両面からプレスする為のプレス用ガラス板で
ある。該プレス板4,4とプラスチツクフイルム
基板1,1との間には多数の微小なプラスチツク
ビーズ5(例えば積水フアインケミカル(株)製
のミクロパールSP−209)が散布されている。こ
の微小なプラスチツクビーズ5の介在によつて前
記プレス板4,4と上記2枚の薄いプラスチツク
フイルム基板1,1とは密着しない。よつてプレ
ス状態においてプラスチツクフイルム基板1,1
間のシール材2の硬化を行なう為に加熱を行なつ
てもプラスチツクフイルム基板1,1内に部分的
なストレスがかからない。従つてプラスチツクフ
イルム基板1,1にカール、うねりが生じたり、
異常な光学異方性が発生することが無い。その為
良好な表示品位を得ることができるものである。
上記実施例では両基板が薄いプラスチツクフイル
ム基板である場合であつたが、本発明は少なくと
も一方の基板がプラスチツクフイルム基板である

液晶を充填してなる液晶表示素子の製造方法にお
いて、 前記2枚の基板を貼り合わせる際のプレス板と
前記薄いプラスチツクフイルム基板との間にプラ
スチツクビーズを介在させ、加熱しながらプレス
