The present invention also provides a brake lining that includes a wear-resistant metal filler, has one surface as a pressing surface for a braked member, and has a surface opposite to the pressing surface as an adhesive surface for a backing plate. When preparing a lining material containing the magnetic metal filler and then subjecting the lining material to a forming operation,
The method is characterized in that a magnetic force is applied from the adhesive surface side to disperse the metal filler coarsely on the pressing surface and a region in the vicinity thereof, and more densely on the adhesive surface side of the pressing surface.

(2) Effects According to the lining, the amount of metal filler dispersed in the pressing surface and the area near it is smaller than the initial amount, so the wear resistance of the area decreases accordingly.
This makes it possible to improve the initial conformability of the lining to the braked member.
