Description

方向に向けた水平対向形内燃機関を搭載した自動
二輪車に関するもので、特にその自動二輪車の前
後車輪間の距離を可及的に短縮することを目的と
するものである。

く振動が少ないので、これを自動二輪車に搭載す
るときは振動や騒音の少ない自動二輪車を設計し
易く、特にピストン等の往復質量が前後方向に移
動するようシリンダ軸線を車両の前後方向に配置
すると一層体感振動を軽減することができる。と
ころがこのエンジンは少なくとも二個のシリンダ
がクランクケースを挾んで略対称位置に配置され
るため、シリンダの軸線方向の寸法が大きくな
る。そこでシリンダ軸線を車両の前後方向に配し
て自動二輪車に搭載するときは、車両の横幅を小
型化できる反面、前後車輪間の距離が大型化し、
車両の小型化が困難となる不具合がある。

この発明は上記不具合を解消すべくなされたも
ので、水平対向形内燃機関を自動二輪車に搭載す
るとき機関の上部にやや大きな死空間が生じるこ
に着眼し、後部シリンダを前部シリンダに比して
若干上方へ偏倚させ、後部シリンダの後端と後車
輪との間隙を増した上、後車輪を前方へ移動させ
ることにより、前後車輪間の距離の減少を図つた
点に特徴がある。

は後部シリンダ9bの下面に配された変速機であ

部シリンダの後方下部との間で隙間の大きくな
り、後車輪を前方へ移動させてその隙間を詰める
ことが可能となる。よつて、車両の前後方向の長
さを短縮することができる。すなわち、自動二輪
車の前後車輪間の距離を大きく増大させることな
く、前後車輪間にシリンダの軸芯を前後方向に向
けて水平対向形内燃機関を搭載することができ
る。また、上方へ偏倚させるのは後部シリンダの
みであるから、車両の重心はそれ程高くならない
等の効果がある。
