BACKGROUND ART Conventional connectors of this type generally have a structure in which a receptacle contact is provided in a housing to receive a pin to be connected, as shown in FIGS. 8 and 9. However, if miniaturization is attempted with such a structure, the stroke of the contact becomes short and the bias of the spring of the contact becomes small, resulting in problems such as an inability to sufficiently hold the inserted pin. Therefore, there was a limit to the miniaturization of connectors with conventional shapes.

FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of FIG. 2, and is a diagram showing the procedure for mounting the contact in the housing.
A groove 12 is provided on the outside of the housing for inserting and holding a contact obliquely from above as indicated by the arrow in FIG. The broken line in FIG. 3 shows the state in which the contact is being inserted into the groove 12.

By the way, the wall surface of the housing defining the opening of the cavity has one opposing side cut out, as shown in FIG. Therefore, when the contact is inserted into the groove 12 from diagonally above the housing, the bent tip 21 of the contact extends beyond the cutout opening and into the opening of the cavity 11.

A portion of the groove 12 of the housing is provided so as to be inclined outward from the bottom of the side wall forming the cavity. Further, a portion of the body portion 22 of the contact that fits into a portion of this inclined groove portion is also provided with a corresponding inclined portion 22a.

FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along the line A--A in FIG. 3. As can be seen from this figure, a constricted portion 23a is provided at the connecting portion connected to the body portion 22 of the contact.

FIG. 5 is a side view of FIG. 3. In the figure, reference numeral 12a is a gap provided outside the groove 12 of the housing and communicating therewith. This gap 12a is the constricted portion 23 of the contact.

22b shown in FIGS. 3 and 5 is a protrusion 22b provided on the body 22 of the contact. When the contact is inserted into the groove 12 of the housing, this protrusion 22b collides with the gap 12a, causing the contact to to the housing.

Returning to FIG. 3, we will add an explanation of the shape of the contact. In the illustrated embodiment, the shape of the contact before being inserted into the housing is such that the body portion 22 and the connecting portion 23 are integrally formed in a straight line as shown by the broken line, and after the contact is installed in the housing, the shape of the contact is as shown by the arrow in the figure. The connecting portion 23 is formed vertically by bending the connecting portion 23 in the direction shown in FIG. However, even if the contact has the connecting portion 23 bent, the constricted portion 23a of the contact is narrower than the width of the gap 12a, so when the contact is inserted into the groove 12 of the housing, the constricted portion 23a passes through the gap. , the contact can be attached to the housing without any problems.

Next, when the pin of the connected member 100 is inserted into the housing in which the contact is mounted, the pin and the bent tip 21 of the contact come into contact with each other at the opening 12 of the cavity. As the pin is inserted, the tip end portion 21 of the contact expands, and its elastic force holds the pin housed in the cavity 11.

6 and 7 show the embodiment of the connector of FIG. 2 according to the present invention. This example is
In FIG. 3, this can be achieved by mounting the contacts indicated by broken lines in the housing and then bending them counterclockwise. In this case, the width of the illustrated housing becomes the height when used as a connector (see FIG. 6). Therefore, this embodiment can realize a connector with a lower profile than the first embodiment. However, the direction in which the pins are inserted is parallel to the printed circuit board to which they are attached, as is clear from FIG.

Since the contact is fixed outside the cavity of the housing and its tip is configured to protrude into the opening of the cavity, the length of the housing itself can be reduced without weakening the elastic force of the tip. Therefore, the connector can be made low-profile.

Also, to attach the contact to the housing,
Assembly as a connector is extremely easy because the contacts are fitted into the grooves of the housing from diagonally above the housing.

Further, when the contact member is received into the cavity, the tip of the contact can be deflected until it collides with the inner wall of the cavity, but is limited by the inner wall beyond that point. In other words, this contact is an anti-overstress contact.

Furthermore, since the pin of the connected member comes into contact with the connecting portion of the contact at the opening of the cavity, the stroke of the pin until it reaches the bottom of the cavity is long, and therefore the wiping effect for removing dirt from the pin is great.

Also, in order to fix the contact outside the cavity,
There is no need to insert the contact body into the cavity,
The bottom of the cavity is not open (in the conventional type, the bottom of the cavity is also the insertion opening for the contact, as shown in FIG. 8). Disadvantages due to the open bottom of the cavity,
For example, inconveniences such as intrusion of solder flux etc. can be eliminated.
