Overseas, land disposal, along with ocean dumping, was used as a treatment method for radioactive waste and other waste containing hazardous substances. One way to dispose of waste on land is to store it in a pit surrounded by a concrete wall to prevent contamination. However, this method requires a long storage period, so groundwater or rainwater may seep into the pit, or the container holding the waste may break, causing hazardous substances to dissolve in the water and migrate into the surrounding ground or underground water. It is necessary to take measures in advance to prevent accidents from occurring.

This facility has a rectangular surrounding area, and a continuous wall 6 is formed by building a water-permeable adsorbent wall unit 5 into the ground at a predetermined depth. The adsorbent wall unit 5 contains an adsorbent having the ability to adsorb radioactive substances and is water permeable, and is built in a detachable unit to form a continuous wall 6. In the figure, 7 is soil covering, and 8 is a partition wall that partitions the inside of the pit 3.

For example, it is a porous molded product obtained by fixing and molding a mixture of cationic ion exchange resin pellets and fillers such as sand and lightweight aggregate using a relatively small amount of a binder such as an unsaturated polyester resin. Of course, small pieces or powder such as the above-mentioned adsorbent pellets may be directly packed into a porous bag or the like to serve as an adsorbent. These adsorbents are used as molded bodies or attached to or packed in a water-permeable frame to form a plate-shaped adsorbent wall unit.

This invention consists of the above configuration. This facility has a continuous underground wall around the pit where the waste is stored, and this wall is either entirely composed of a water-permeable adsorbent wall unit, or it is adsorbed to a part of the water-tight wall. Since the wall unit is built-in, even if harmful substances dissolve in water and leach from the pit, they will be adsorbed in the process of permeating through the adsorbent layer of the wall unit, preventing contamination of the surrounding ground and underground water by leachate. .
