This is an application of the principle that when light rays interfere with each other with a phase difference, the human eye perceives it as an iris color.

Naturally, the light rays do not enter the film surface, and therefore the iris color due to the interference of the light rays does not appear.

As light is emitted from the iris, the colors of the iris appear, making it extremely beautiful. When this property is used for stage costumes, exhibition decorations, etc., it has the effect of giving a vivid impression to the viewer.
