まり好ましくない。(Prior Art) As an electrical connector of the above type, one for telephone lines is well known, and the present applicant has already proposed this type of electrical connector (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 59-78481). An example of the proposed electrical connector is shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, in which a plug 3 having a plurality of covered electric wires 4 connected to a receptacle 1 having a plug receiving opening 2 is inserted into the opening 2. Thus, the first contact 6 and the second contact 2a are brought into contact with each other. In the plug 3, the first contact 6 is press-fitted into the plurality of contact insertion grooves 5a formed in the lower surface of the housing 5 with respect to the plurality of covered electric wires 4 inserted in the insulating housing 5, and The upper end of 6 penetrates the coating of the electric wire 4 and is connected to the core wire. The details of this portion are shown in FIG. 7, and as can be seen from this figure, the upper end 6a of the first contact 6 press-fitted from below pierces the coating of the electric wire 4 by this pressure input, and the core wire
Contact 4a. Plug 3 along the arrow III-III in this figure
FIG. 8 is a cross section of FIG. 8, but the pressure input of the first contact 6 must be large to some extent in order to break through the coating of the wire 4, and the upper wall 5a of the housing 5 that receives this pressure input is shown by the broken line. There is a problem that it bends upwards. The tendency is that the number of wires increases and the housing 5
Becomes larger as the width of the first contact 6 becomes larger, and it is difficult to sufficiently secure the press-fitting force of the first contact 6, and the contact failure between the electric wire 4 and the first contact 6 easily occurs. For this purpose, the upper wall 5a of the housing 6 may be thickened to increase the rigidity, but this is not preferable because the plug becomes large.

An electric connector that covers an end portion of the electric wire and a cover housing that engages with the base housing, the contacts extending along an axial direction of the electric wires and abutting the electric wires. An abutting part electrically connected and a projection part press-fitted and locked in a press-fitting locking hole formed in the cover housing, wherein the abutting part and the projection part are mutually along the axial direction of the electric wires. Are arranged at different positions and are shifted by a half pitch in a direction orthogonal to the axial direction.

The plug comprises a contact 10, a base housing 20 and a cover housing 30. The contact 10 is formed by punching out a conductive metal plate, and has a bifurcated connecting portion 11 at the front end for receiving the second contact of the receptacle into which the plug is fitted and electrically connecting the same. The projection 12 for press-fitting and fixing with the cover housing 30 is formed in the part, and the projections 13 for press-fitting and locking having the projections 13a, 13a projecting at both front and rear ends are formed at two positions in the rear part. An abutting portion 14 for penetrating the coating of the electric wire 4 and contacting the core wire 4a is formed with a displacement of a half pitch in the width direction (arrow A direction) from the press-fitting locking projection 13. In addition, the rear end has a base housing
A vertical movement restricting projection 15 is formed which is engaged with the vertical locking groove 23a of the contact 20 to restrict the vertical movement of the rear end of the contact 10.

The base housing 20 has a plurality of connection part receiving holes 21 into which the connection parts 11 of the contacts 10 are inserted. And a plurality of contact receiving grooves 22 for receiving the rear portion of the contact 10. The contact 10 is provided at the rear end of the partition wall 23 forming the contact receiving groove 22.
A vertical locking groove 23a that engages with the vertical movement restricting protrusion 15 is provided. At both ends of the base housing 20 (in this figure, only one end is shown because the base housing 20 is cut away and shown), the mounting groove 24 for engaging and holding the cover housing 30 and the groove 24 are provided. Mounting engagement step 25
Are formed. The base housing 20 is vertically symmetrical, and the contacts 10 can be arranged side by side on the lower surface side, and another cover housing 30 can be attached from the lower surface side.

An arm 31 is formed, and a plurality of electric wire receiving grooves 32 for receiving the ends of the electric wires 4 are formed side by side between the engaging arms 31 at both ends. The partition walls 33 for forming the electric wire receiving groove 32 are notched at two locations, and press-fit locking holes 34 are formed in these portions. Furthermore, this partition wall

The cover housing 30 is attached to the base housing 20 by engaging with the attachment engagement step portion 25 of the 20. At this time, as shown in the perspective view of FIG. 2, the press-fitting locking projection 13 of the contact 10 is press-fitted into the press-fitting locking hole 34 of the cover housing 30, while the contact portion 14 is pressed into the press-fitting locking projection. Since it is displaced by a half pitch in the width direction with respect to 13, the wire 4 is pressed against the bottom surface 32a of the wire receiving groove 32 by abutting the wire 4 received in the wire receiving groove 32.
Therefore, the contact portion 14 breaks the coating of the electric wire 4 and comes into contact with the core wire 4a.

Since the contact portion penetrates the coating of the electric wire and comes into contact with the core wire in a state in which the portion is press-fitted and locked, it is possible to press-fit and lock the cover housing for each contact. Therefore, regardless of the number of contacts, each contact and the core wire of the electric wire can be reliably brought into contact with each other, and the warp of the upper surface of the housing due to the contact pressing force, which occurs in the conventional connector, can be prevented. .

It can be densely arranged in the housing without contact. For this reason, it is possible to obtain a connector which is capable of miniaturization and high density while having a function of ensuring the connection between the contact and the electric wire.
