Abstract

A lubricating grease having a high dropping point, good stability against oxidation and long life contains a thickener comprising essentially the three components: lithium soap of C12-24 hydroxy fatty acid; lithium phosphate salt produced from phosphoric or phosphorous acid ester and dilithium borate. The amounts of hydroxy fatty acid and phosphoric or phosphorous acid ester are 3-100 parts by weight and 0.05-15 parts by weight per part by weight of boric acid respectively.

Further, Japanese Patent Publication No. 57-47235 discloses a known complex grease containing lithium borate.
It is described that a high dropping point grease (482 ° F or higher) can be produced from lithium hydroxystearate soap and monolithium borate. The combination of 12-hydroxyoxystearic acid and dilithium borate is a high dropping point grease. Is not generated.

Ordinary lithium grease has a continuous usable temperature limit of 12
The temperature is 0 ° C. to 130 ° C. At high temperatures of 150 ° C. or higher, the lubricity of grease is lost due to destruction of micelles due to oxidative deterioration, softening of grease, increase in oil separation, and the like.

For example, in a vehicle equipped with a disc brake, there is a risk that the wheel bearing grease will be exposed to a temperature of 150 to 200 ° C due to the frictional heat generated by the brake operation. However, there is a drawback that deterioration due to oxidation or rapid deterioration may cause poor lubrication.

MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEMS The inventors of the present invention have prepared a lithium salt prepared from a third component, phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, an ester thereof or a mixture thereof, in lithium 12-hydroxystearate soap and dilithium borate. It has been found that by combining them, a grease that can be used satisfactorily even under severe operating conditions such as operation of a machine or device at high temperature or operation at high speed or under high load can be produced.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a lithium complex grease having a high dropping point while utilizing the excellent properties of lithium grease such as heat resistance, durability and water resistance in order to meet the above demands. That is, the present invention is based on C12 as a thickener containing lubricating oil as a main component.
-C24 lithium fatty acid of hydroxy fatty acid, and lithium complex obtained by essentially mixing and dispersing three components of lithium salt prepared from phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, esters thereof, or a mixture thereof in dilithium borate. It has been found that this can be achieved by the use of Tux grease, and the present invention has been completed.

In addition, when the lithium salt of phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid as the component (b) of the grease of the present invention is prepared, phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid is neutralized from lithium hydroxide or lithium oxide. However, it is preferable to use as an ester in consideration of dispersion in the lubricating oil. Examples of the phosphate ester include trimethyl phosphate, triethyl phosphate, triisopropyl phosphate, triptyl phosphate, trilauryl phosphate, tristearyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate, tri-2-ethylhexyl phosphate, tridecyl phosphate, and the like. Suitable are trinonylphenyl phosphate, diphenylmonodecyl phosphate, trithiotrilauryl phosphate, trichloroethyl phosphate and the corresponding phosphites or their acid esters.

Lithium hydroxide if an ester is used, or
Trilithium phosphate by reaction with lithium oxide or
Trilithium phosphite or an acid salt thereof and an alkyl alcohol or an allyl alcohol are produced,
If alcohol is left in the grease, the stability of the product is slightly inferior, so it is better to remove it by evaporation. Therefore, esters of lower alcohols are preferred.
