Among them, the so-called Winchester type magnetic head slider, which is constructed as a part of a magnetic circuit by using a magnetic material for the flying slider portion, is one of the most widely used magnetic head sliders at present. This conventional Winchester type magnetic head slider is a magnetic core member for forming an annular magnetic circuit in the floating slider portion 10 as shown in FIGS. 4 (a), 4 (b) and 4 (C). The coil 20 is formed in a U shape and is vertically arranged at the rearmost portion of the floating slider portion 10, and an electric wire is wound around this to form a coil 30.

The size has been reduced to inches, 5.25 inches, and even 3.5 inches. As a result, the size of the magnetic head slider is
L, W and H shown in Figures (a) to (c) are initially L = 5.6 mm, W = 3.
The size has been reduced from 9 mm, H = 1.9 mm to L = 4.1 mm, W = 3.2 mm, H = 1.0 mm. However, the above-mentioned 3.5-inch disk is still too large for the miniaturized magnetic head slider, and further miniaturization is desired.

Therefore, it is necessary to secure a space for forming the coil 30. There is a limit in reducing the height dimension (H). That is, in the conventional magnetic head slider, H is limited to about 0.8 mm, which has been an obstacle to miniaturization of the length (L) and the width (W). If H is left unchanged and L and W are made smaller, the slider is supported at a position considerably distant from the center of gravity in the height direction due to the aspect ratio, which is mechanically extremely unbalanced. Become.

A groove 13 is formed between the air bearing surface rail 11 and the air bearing surface rail 12 on the 20 side. Further, the magnetic core member 20 has a hook-like shape as shown in FIG. 1 and further has a groove 28 formed therein. The floating slider portion 10 and the magnetic core member 20 were joined by glass welding. When the coil 30 is wound around the magnetic core member 20, an annular magnetic circuit is formed which passes from the magnetic core member 20 to the floating slider 10 air bearing surface rail 11 side and then returns from the air bearing surface rail 12 side to the magnetic core member 10 again. Further, the bonding surface on the side of the air bearing surface rail 12 is formed on the air bearing surface closest to the recording medium (not shown) and serves as a recording / reproducing gap 41. Also the air bearing surface rail
The joint surface on the 11th side is separated from the air bearing surface to form the back gap 42.
