In the illustrated state, the replenishing roller 17 of the green developer chamber 15G faces the developing sleeve 12, but in this state, when the replenishing roller 17 rotates, the green developer 16G in the vicinity of the replenishing roller 17 is mechanically operated. Moves counterclockwise following the replenishment roller 17, and as a result, from the developer chamber 15G to the developing sleeve 12
Be dropped on. That is, the developer is discharged. Depending on the arrangement of the developer accommodating portion 13 with respect to the developing sleeve 12, the supply roller 17 may forcibly discharge the developer. When the replenishment roller 17 rotates counterclockwise and the green developer 16G is discharged, the replenishment roller 17 is previously applied with an appropriate voltage having a polarity opposite to the bias voltage of the developing sleeve 12 (hereinafter, this voltage is When the developer is discharged, it passes through a conductive brush or other conductive elastic member 19 provided at one end of the wall of the developer accommodating portion 13 so as to contact the replenishing roller 17. Is charged to a predetermined potential.

The green developer 16G thus charged is the developing sleeve 12
While being conveyed by, the toner comes into contact with the surface of the photosensitive drum 1, and at that time, electrostatically adheres to the electrostatic latent image to develop the latent image. The developer that has not contributed to the development is supplied to the development work again while being mixed with the newly discharged developer. Alternatively, it is held in a preliminary chamber formed in the developing container 11.

When the operator wants to make a copy of another color instead of the green copy, for example, a red copy, the entire developer accommodating portion 13 is rotated counterclockwise around the central axis, and the red developer chamber 15R is rotated. The supply roller 17 is moved to a position facing the developing sleeve 12. After that, the red developer 16R is supplied to the developing sleeve 12 in the same operation as described above to perform the developing operation. In this way, red copying is performed instead of green copying, but if the developer storage section 13 is rotated immediately after green copying, the green developer will remain around the developing sleeve 12, Next, when the red developer 16R is newly supplied to the developing sleeve 12, the green developer 16G and the red developer 16R are mixed, and as a result, a desired clear red copy cannot be obtained. Therefore, in red development, before the red developer 16R is supplied to the developing sleeve 12, the previous developer, that is, the green developer 15G, must be removed from around the developing sleeve 12.

Therefore, after the supply sleeve 17 is stopped and the green copying operation is completed, one normal copying process without image exposure is executed to create a green solid image, so that it remains around the developing sleeve 12. The green developer 16G is attached onto the photosensitive drum 1 and removed by cleaning. Supply roller
It is also possible to form 17 so as to also perform the agent collecting operation. That is, the developer storage unit 13 does not rotate immediately after the green copying operation is completed, but first the supply roller 17 is rotated in the reverse direction, that is, in the clockwise direction. At the same time, the replenishment voltage that has been applied to the replenishment roller 17 is switched to a voltage that has the same polarity as the bias voltage of the developing sleeve 12 and is larger than the bias voltage (hereinafter referred to as recovery voltage).

By changing the rotation direction and the applied voltage with respect to the replenishment roller 17, the green developer around the developing sleeve 12 is sucked by the replenishment roller 17 and collected in the green developer chamber 15G. Replenishing roller 17 for collecting developer
In order to prevent the green developer from being discharged to the outside of the room by the clockwise rotation of 1, the blade 18 may be attached to the chamber wall opposite to the conductive brush so as to contact the replenishing roller 17.

When the green developer 16G has been collected, the developer accommodating portion 13 rotates and the replenishment roller 17 of the red developing chamber 15R is conveyed to a position facing the developing sleeve 12 as described above, and then the red copying operation is performed. Since the green developer 16G does not remain around the developing sleeve 12 this time, color mixing does not occur.
The above description is for the case of color change between the green copy and the red copy, but the same effect is obtained for the color change between other colors.

During development, when the developing sleeve 21 and the paddle wheel 23 simultaneously rotate in the counterclockwise direction, the developer 25 stored in the developing container 22 is sent onto the developing sleeve 21 by the blades of the paddle wheel 23, and the layer thickness is adjusted by the doctor 28. The toner is supplied to the latent image on the photoconductor drum 1 to be developed, where a fixed amount of the toner is conveyed to the developing unit that approaches the photoconductor drum 1. The developer shielded by the doctor 28 moves in the upper right direction in the figure along the back surface of the doctor 28, and is dispersed in the width direction by the developer stirring devices 29 and 30, so that the concentration in the width direction is made uniform. The developer whose development has been completed in the developing section is accompanied by the rotation of the sleeve 21 and the developing container 22.
The magnetic plate provided in a part of the magnet in the developing sleeve is conveyed inside and drops away from the periphery of the developing sleeve 21,
By the rotation of the paddle wheel 23, it is returned to the inside of the developing container 22,
It circulates in the route indicated by the arrow in the figure. When the toner is consumed by the repeated development and the toner concentration of the developer decreases, the toner is replenished from the toner tank 26, and the toner concentration of the developer is always maintained within a predetermined range.
