Abstract

The invention concerns an impregnated vegetable oil containing lycopene and terpenes from natural sources, characterized by high stability and biological properties. The said impregnated vegetable oil is enriched with lycopene by two methods: A direct solubilization method, in which the impregnated, flavored and/or perfumed vegetable oil containing terpenes constitutes a green solvent with high solubilizing power for the extraction and/or solubilization of lycopene. An indirect dissolution method, in which a pure, stable extract of lycopene containing terpenes, obtained by selective extraction of tomato peels with the ethano-terpene solvent, constitutes the impregnating agent for the vegetable oil. The lycopene-rich impregnated vegetable oil of the present invention is endowed with improved bioavailability and nutritional attributes, natural antioxidant capacity, special odor and flavor, long shelf life and is useful for the manufacture of nutraceutical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical or food products.
