What we support
Core geoscience research
Funding opportunities that advance knowledge on Earth's atmosphere and the near-Earth space environment; Earth's interior and surface processes; and all fields of ocean science.
Special initiatives
Funding opportunities that invest in topics aligning with agency priorities, including artificial intelligence, critical minerals, fire science and more.
NSF Office of Polar Programs
The U.S. National Science Foundation Office of Polar Programs (OPP) supports innovative and creative scientific research relating to Earth's polar regions and the global interplay of these regions with others across our planet. OPP is part of the NSF Office of the Director and closely collaborates with GEO.
