I canโ€™t remember their faces. I try so hard to remember them, but they all jumble together into this senseless pattern. I gaze into their eyes till my head aches, but all I see, are fractured orbital sockets, broken nasal bones, facial lacerations, antemortem wounds - and their skulls are crushed, and their collar bones are shattered. They shouldn't be able to speak, but they do. They canโ€™t stop talking to me - and I canโ€™t stop listening.

Visited the the house I lived in as a child for the first time in 18 years today (tenant moved out so I had to get the keys and stuff). Walked around my old neighbourhood. Not a lot changed. Made me yearn for the simplicity of my childhood and cry a bit.

PARIS IS BURNING (1990) dir. Jennie Livingston A vibrant snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of New York Cityโ€™s ball scene. Made over seven years, the documentary offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion โ€œhouses,โ€ from fierce contests for trophies to house mothers offering sustenance in a world rampant with homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS, and poverty. Featuring legendary performers like Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey, and Venus Xtravaganza, it is a celebration of the joy of movement, the force of eloquence, and the draw of community.
