Dustin Harris HOU 1B
Astros' Dustin Harris: Ready to go Friday
6m agoHarris (hand) is starting in left field and batting seventh Friday against the Yankees, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Harris was held out of the lineup Wednesday against the Guardians after suffering hand contusion Tuesday, but he's good to go after Thursday's team off day. Since being claimed off waivers April 18, Harris has gone 0-for-6 with a walk and two runs in three games with the Astros.

Jose Berrios TOR SP
Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Scheduled for Triple-A rehab start
13m agoBerrios (elbow) is scheduled to make his next rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Berrios has made two rehab starts with Single-A Dunedin most recently Wednesday against Fort Myers, when he allowed three hits and struck out five batters without issuing a walk over four scoreless innings. He'll now shift his rehab assignment over to Triple-A, and he'll likely need at least two more starts without suffering a setback before being cleared to make his major-league season debut with the Blue Jays.
-
Luke Keaschall MIN 2B
Twins' Luke Keaschall: Heading to bench Friday
19m agoKeaschall is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
The 23-year-old started Minnesota's first 25 games of the season, and he'll take a seat Friday after posting a .202/.245/.263 slash line with one homer and five steals. Tristan Gray will step in at the keystone with Keaschall on the bench.
-
Eugenio Suarez CIN 3B
Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Scratched with back injury
20m agoSuarez was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers due to mid-back pain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
It's unclear how severe Suarez's injury is, but it will prevent him from serving as Cincinnati's designated hitter in Friday's series opener. Nathaniel Lowe will replace him in the starting nine and bat sixth.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Resting Friday
26m agoBailey is not in the Giants' starting lineup against the Marlins on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Eric Haase will start behind home plate and bat ninth while catching pitches from Adrian Houser for Friday's series opener. In 15 games since April 1, Bailey has gone 7-for-45 (.156) with one steal, one home run, three RBI and a 3:8 BB:K.
-
Josh Bell MIN DH
Twins' Josh Bell: Taking seat Friday
26m agoBell is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
The veteran slugger started the previous 16 games and will receive a day off after posting a .267/.333/.350 slash line during that span. Byron Buxton is resting his legs as the designated hitter in Bell's absence, which opens up center field for Austin Martin.
-
Patrick Bailey SF C
Giants' Patrick Bailey: Resting Friday
26m agoBailey is not in the Giants' starting lineup against the Marlins on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Eric Haase will start behind home plate and bat ninth while catching pitches from Adrian Houser for Friday's series opener. In 15 games since April 1, Bailey has gone 7-for-45 (.156) with one steal, one home run, three RBI and a 3:8 BB:K.
-
Gary Sanchez MIL C
Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Not in Friday's lineup
1h agoSanchez is not in the Brewers' starting lineup against the Pirates on Friday.
Sanchez has been seeing more time as the Brewers' designated hitter in the absence of Christian Yelich (groin), but the former will be idle for the start of Friday's contest while Tyler Black operates as the team's DH and bats in the cleanup spot. Over his last 10 games, Sanchez has gone 8-for-35 (.229) with two home runs and eight RBI.
-
Austin Wells NYY C
Yankees' Austin Wells: Idle Friday
1h agoWells isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.
Wells will take a seat on the bench to begin Friday's contest after going just 1-for-12 with two walks and an RBI over his last four games. J.C. Escarra will pick up a start behind the dish as a result and bat seventh.
-
Keibert Ruiz WAS C
Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Out of Nationals' lineup
2h agoRuiz is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the White Sox.
It's been a virtually even split in playing time at catcher between Ruiz and Drew Millas. After Ruiz started each of the previous two contests, it will be Millas behind the dish in Friday's series opener.
-
Ryan Jeffers MIN C
Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Knocks grand slam Thursday
16h agoJeffers went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and two walks in a loss to the Mets on Thursday.
Jeffers came up with a clutch hit in the top of the eighth inning, belting a grand slam to left field to tie the score 7-7. Minnesota eventually went on to lose the game, but it was a big moment for the backstop, who had just two hits over his previous 19 at-bats prior to the homer. On the season, Jeffers is slashing .267/.405/.483 with three long balls, 16 RBI, 12 runs and a 13:14 BB:K through 74 plate appearances.
-
Kyle Teel CHW C
White Sox's Kyle Teel: Not ready for rehab games yet
1d agoTeel did not begin a rehab assignment earlier this week as initially anticipated, as his right hamstring is "still grabbing at him a little bit" when he runs, Connor McKnight of the Chicago Sports Network reports.
Teel had been scheduled to kick off a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, but that's been pushed back. The catcher noted that his hamstring strain -- which he initially suffered in mid-March while playing for Team Italy during the World Baseball Classic -- is "getting better every day," but it just isn't progressing as quickly as hoped. Edgar Quero and Reese McGuire will continue handling catching duties for the White Sox until Teel is ready.
-
Dustin Harris HOU 1B
Astros' Dustin Harris: Ready to go Friday
6m agoHarris (hand) is starting in left field and batting seventh Friday against the Yankees, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Harris was held out of the lineup Wednesday against the Guardians after suffering hand contusion Tuesday, but he's good to go after Thursday's team off day. Since being claimed off waivers April 18, Harris has gone 0-for-6 with a walk and two runs in three games with the Astros.
-
Andrew Vaughn MIL 1B
Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Hitting on field
1h agoVaughn (hand) began hitting on the field Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Vaughn was cleared to begin swinging a bat earlier in the week, and he has now started to hit for the first time since undergoing surgery in late March to address a fractured hamate bone. He's slated to visit a doctor Tuesday, at which point he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment and remain on track for an early-to-mid-May return.
-
Vinnie Pasquantino KC 1B
Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Receiving first day off
2h agoPasquantino is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
Pasquantino went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a solo homer Wednesday against Baltimore to bust out of an 0-for-16 slump, and he'll hit the bench Friday for the first time this season. Salvador Perez will shift to first base while Elias Diaz picks up a start behind the plate.
-
Ivan Melendez ARI 1B
Ivan Melendez: Let go by Arizona
22h agoMelendez was released by the Diamondbacks on Thursday, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.
Melendez has produced a .222 average with two home runs, eight RBI and four runs scored over 45 at-bats in 12 contests with Triple-A Reno so far this season. He will now look for a new home in an attempt to potentially make his major-league debut down the road.
-
Spencer Torkelson DET 1B
Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Goes deep again Thursday
1d agoTorkelson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Brewers.
Torkelson went without a home run in his first 23 games of the season, but he's now gone deep on consecutive days. The slugger also struck out two more times Thursday, and his strikeout rate is now a tick below 30 percent. Torkelson has always been known as player with plenty of swing-and-miss in his game who can also hit homers in bunches, and that seems to be the case once again in 2026.
-
Eric Wagaman MIN 1B
Twins' Eric Wagaman: DFA'd by Minnesota
1d agoThe Twins designated Wagaman for assignment Thursday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of waiver claim Christian Roa. Wagaman came up short in his bid for an Opening Day roster spot for the Twins and has hit only .159/.284/.254 early on at Triple-A St. Paul.
-
Luke Keaschall MIN 2B
Twins' Luke Keaschall: Heading to bench Friday
19m agoKeaschall is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
The 23-year-old started Minnesota's first 25 games of the season, and he'll take a seat Friday after posting a .202/.245/.263 slash line with one homer and five steals. Tristan Gray will step in at the keystone with Keaschall on the bench.
-
Joseph Ortiz MIL 2B
Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Sitting down Friday
1h agoOrtiz isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Pirates
Ortiz will get a day to rest after snapping his six-game hitless streak with his single against the Tigers on Thursday. David Hamilton will start at shortstop Friday while Luis Rengifo mans the hot corner.
-
Edouard Julien COL 2B
Rockies' Edouard Julien: Grabbing seat Friday
2h agoJulien is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Mets.
Julien went 7-for-23 with five RBI and four runs scored during the Rockies' recent six-game homestand, but he will get a breather Friday as the team begins a road trip. Tyler Freeman is handling second base and batting cleanup.
-
Tyler Black MIL 2B
Brewers' Tyler Black: Summoned to big leagues
3h agoThe Brewers recalled Black from Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Black has hit .282/.378/.410 with one home run and two steals in 10 games for Nashville since returning from an undisclosed injury. The left-handed bat could see some action against right-handed pitching while the Brewers navigate injuries to Christian Yelich (groin), Jackson Chourio (hand) and Andrew Vaughn (hand).
-
Hye Seong Kim LAD 2B
Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Continues to produce
5h agoKim went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Thursday in a 3-0 win against San Francisco.
Kim produced the game's final run with an RBI single in the fourth inning. The 27-year-old started at shortstop for the third straight game while Mookie Betts (oblique) remains sidelined, but Kim's playing time overall this season has been sporadic despite his effectiveness when called upon, as he's slashing .324/.415/.471 with one home run, five RBI, five runs and four stolen bases in as many attempts. Given his numbers with the big-league club, Kim may be earning a permanent spot on the 26-man roster even after Betts returns to action.
-
Luis Arraez SF 2B
Giants' Luis Arraez: Logs stolen base in loss
5h agoArraez went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Dodgers.
Arraez drew a walk in the first inning and subsequently stole second. The 29-year-old infielder reached base on a leadoff single in the fourth as well, accounting for San Francisco's lone hit in the contest. He's slashing .304/.340/.359 with 11 runs scored, six RBI and three stolen bases across 101 plate appearances as the Giants' everyday second baseman.
-
Eugenio Suarez CIN 3B
Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Scratched with back injury
20m agoSuarez was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers due to mid-back pain, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
It's unclear how severe Suarez's injury is, but it will prevent him from serving as Cincinnati's designated hitter in Friday's series opener. Nathaniel Lowe will replace him in the starting nine and bat sixth.
-
Maikel Garcia KC 3B
Royals' Maikel Garcia: Should return Saturday
1h agoGarcia (elbow), who is out of the lineup for Friday's series opener versus the Angels, said he's feeling better and hopes to be available off the bench before potentially returning to the lineup Saturday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Garcia described the elbow injury he sustained during Wednesday's game against the Orioles as a cramp, which is encouraging even though he's not starting Friday. Nick Loftin is picking up a start at third base Friday, but Garcia should be good to go in short order..
-
Jared Triolo PIT 3B
Pirates' Jared Triolo: Starting rehab assignment
2h agoTriolo (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton on Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Triolo has been sidelined for nearly three weeks with a knee issue, but he's ready to test things out in a game setting. The infielder could be ready to return at some point next week and will be in the mix for starts at third base when he is activated.
-
Maikel Garcia KC 3B
Royals' Maikel Garcia: Not in Friday's lineup
2h agoGarcia (elbow) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
After leaving Wednesday's game against the Orioles due to right elbow soreness, Garcia said he expected to play in Friday's series opener versus the Halos. The 25-year-old will open the contest on the bench, however, despite coming off a team day off Thursday. Nick Loftin is instead starting at the hot corner and batting leadoff for Kansas City.
-
Brett Baty NYM 3B
Mets' Brett Baty: Swats first homer of season
16h agoBaty went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run in Thursday's 10-8 victory against the Twins.
After the Mets fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Baty put his team ahead in the bottom of the frame with a three-run blast off Joe Ryan. That was his first long ball of the campaign after failing to go deep in each of his first 21 contests. Baty has been able to maintain a consistent spot in the lineup despite compiling a meager .225/.250/.338 slash line and 3:23 BB:K so far, and he'll look to use his big performance Thursday as a springboard to improved results at the plate.
-
Bo Bichette NYM 3B
Mets' Bo Bichette: Comes through with big hit Thursday
16h agoBichette went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, three RBI and a stolen base in a 10-8 victory versus Minnesota on Thursday.
All three of Bichette's RBI came in the eighth inning, when he laced a double to left field to clear the bases and snap a 7-7 tie. The infielder had two other hits in the game to finish with his first multi-hit effort since April 11. It's been a shaky start to Bichette's tenure in New York, but he was able to lift his season slash line to .238/.270/.314 with Thursday's big performance. He's produced one homer, five doubles, 12 RBI and 10 runs through 25 games.
-
Francisco Lindor NYM SS
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Shut down until mid-May
2h agoLindor (calf) will wear a boot for the next week and remain shut down for at least three weeks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
After the three weeks are up, Lindor will have more imaging on his left calf to check his progress. He could resume baseball activities at that point if the Mets are satisfied with the MRI, but Lindor would be ramped back up slowly. It all points to a lengthy absence for the star shortstop, but more will be known about a timeline by mid-May. Ronny Mauricio is filling in at shortstop for the Mets in Lindor's stead.
-
Jackson Holliday BAL SS
Orioles' Jackson Holliday: Imaging returns clean
3h agoHolliday (wrist) said Friday that he underwent an MRI, CT scan and X-rays that came back clean and will be shut down from baseball activities for about a week, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
It's encouraging news for the 22-year-old second baseman after he exited Tuesday's rehab game with Triple-A Norfolk due to right hand discomfort, which is the same hand in which he underwent surgery for a fractured hamate bone in February. The shutdown period and subsequent rehab assignment will likely extend Holliday's absence at least another few weeks, but he at least avoided a serious setback.
-
Jesus Made MIL SS
Brewers' Jesus Made: Tacks on three steals
9h agoMade went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and three steals in a game with Double-A Biloxi on Thursday.
It was another stellar showing for Made, who racked up multiple hits for the sixth time in 16 games -- a span over which he's posted a 1.119 OPS -- and upped his stolen-base count on the season to 11. There is not much room for Made to advance up prospect lists, but the teenage phenom is already pushing for a promotion to Triple-A.
-
Corey Seager TEX SS
Rangers' Corey Seager: Mashes homer in victory
16h agoSeager went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 6-1 victory versus the Pirates on Thursday.
Seager broke the game open in the fourth inning, belting a three-run shot to right field to give the Rangers a 6-0 lead. The veteran shortstop had been in the midst of a mini-slump coming into the contest, going just 1-for-15 at the plate with six strikeouts over his previous four games. Seager hasn't been hitting to his usual standard this season, slashing just .207/.317/.448 through 104 plate appearances, but he does have six homers, 16 RBI and 17 runs along with one stolen base.
-
Tristan Gray MIN SS
Twins' Tristan Gray: Slugs third homer
16h agoGray went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Thursday's loss to the Mets.
Gray swatted a solo shot to right-center field in the sixth inning and added a run-scoring single in the ninth. This was his first start in Minnesota's past three games, which coincides with the return of Royce Lewis to the lineup following a stint on the injured list. Gray doesn't seem to be in line for an everyday role, but he's been a pleasant surprise for the Twins early in the campaign, slashing .268/.311/.512 with three homers, 13 RBI and five runs through 46 plate appearances.
-
Xander Bogaerts SD SS
Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Stays hot in high-scoring affair
19h agoBogaerts went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and two walks in Thursday's 10-8 win over Colorado.
Although he got off to a dreadful 4-for-32 start over his first eight games of 2026, the veteran shortstop has been producing at a high level ever since. Over his last 68 trips to the plate (16 contests), Bogaerts is slashing .379/.471/.603 with four long balls, one double and two stolen bases to push his OPS for the year up to a .810.
-
Tyler Fitzgerald TOR CF
Blue Jays' Tyler Fitzgerald: Pushed off 40-man
35m agoThe Blue Jays designated Fitzgerald for assignment Friday.
The 28-year-old will cede his place on the 40-man roster to Will MacIver, whom the Jays acquired in a trade with the Rangers on Friday. Fitzgerald has spent the entire season in Triple-A, slashing just .094/.147/.125 across 34 plate appearances.
-
Andrew Benintendi CHW LF
White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Sitting versus righty
41m agoBenintendi is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.
The veteran outfielder has a .923 OPS with two doubles and two homers over his past six games, but he'll take a seat against a right-handed starter (Miles Mikolas) on Friday for just the second time this season. Everson Pereira is batting leadoff as the designated hitter with Benintendi on the bench.
-
Austin Hays CHW LF
White Sox's Austin Hays: Set to begin rehab assignment
1h agoHays (hamstring) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Hays has been cleared to take the next step in his recovery from a Grade 1 right hamstring strain that caused him to land on the 10-day injured list April 7. He'll head to Triple-A to get some in-game reps and is inching closer to returning to the majors, barring a setback.
-
Steven Kwan CLE LF
Guardians' Steven Kwan: Hitting bench Friday
1h agoKwan is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Kwan has just two hits over the past five games and will head to the bench Friday for just the second time this season. George Valera will shift to left field while Chase DeLauter mans right field, opening up the DH spot for Rhys Hoskins.
-
Michael Harris ATL CF
Braves' Michael Harris: Scratched from lineup
2h agoAtlanta manager Walt Weiss said that Harris (quad) has been scratched from Friday's lineup against the Phillies, Grant McAuley of the Marietta Daily Journal reports.
Harris had to leave Thursday's contest against the Nationals due to left quad tightness. He was in Atlanta's initial lineup Friday, but after testing the quad out pregame, the decision was made to hold him out. Weiss noted Friday that Harris is considered day-to-day and the team does not anticipate a stint on the injured list. Eli White replaced Harris in center field Friday and would be in line for regular playing time while Harris is out.
-
Jake Fraley TB RF
Rays' Jake Fraley: Sitting again Friday
2h agoFraley (shin) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.
Fraley will remain on the bench Friday for a second straight game after fouling a pitch off himself during Tuesday's game against the Reds. Jonny DeLuca is starting in right field and batting fifth against Minnesota righty and former teammate Taj Bradley.
-
Jose Berrios TOR SP
-
Kyle Freeland COL SP
Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Set for another bullpen
1h agoFreeland (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Kevin Henry of The Denver Gazette reports.
It appears Freeland won't need to embark on a rehab assignment, so Saturday's session could be his last before returning from the 15-day injured list, potentially as soon as the Rockies' upcoming road series against the Reds that commences Tuesday. Prior to landing on the IL due to left shoulder inflammation, Freeland posted a 2.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB across 15.2 innings.
-
Tatsuya Imai HOU SP
Astros' Tatsuya Imai: Nearing rehab assignment
1h agoAstros manager Joe Espada told reporters that Imai's (arm) bullpen session Friday "looked good," and that the right-hander's next step is to embark on a rehab assignment, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Per McTaggart, Imai tossed 45 pitches during Friday's bullpen session. Imai has been steadily building up his workload since landing on the 15-day injured list April 13 due to right arm fatigue. It appears the 27-year-old is ready to take the next step in his recovery program by going on a rehab assignment, and he'll likely need at least a couple of outings without a setback before returning to the majors.
-
JR Ritchie ATL SP
Braves' JR Ritchie: Staying in majors for now
1h agoAtlanta manager Walt Weiss said Friday that Ritchie will remain in the majors for now because "we wanted him to be an option in the picture moving forward," Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Ritchie was dynamite in his major-league debut Thursday versus the Nationals, yielding two runs over seven innings while notching seven strikeouts. Spencer Strider (oblique) is tentatively lined up to rejoin the Atlanta next week, which could leave Ritchie without a spot in the rotation. It's unclear whether the club is considering a six-man rotation for a turn, or if Ritchie could be used out of the bullpen. More clarity on the rookie's usage should be revealed in the coming days.
-
Trey Yesavage TOR SP
Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Next step undetermined
2h agoGM Ross Atkins said Friday that the Blue Jays are still discussing whether Yesavage (shoulder) will need another minor-league rehab start or if his next outing will come in the majors, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
The right-hander has already made five rehab starts in the minor leagues, though his last outing Tuesday with Triple-A Buffalo lasted just 2.1 frames and 64 pitches. The Blue Jays were hoping to get Yesavage built up to about 75 pitches before adding him to the big-league rotation, so he seems likely to need another game in the minors. If that's the case, the 22-year-old could still make his season debut as early as next weekend in Minnesota.
-
David Peterson NYM SP
Mets' David Peterson: Will pitch Wednesday
2h agoPeterson is slated to pitch Wednesday versus the Nationals, either as a traditional starting pitcher or bulk reliever, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Peterson has posted a 6.41 ERA in four starts this season, but he pitched better his last two times out, first following an opener and then pitching in long relief. The Mets will likely have a short leash with the left-hander, but Peterson will be afforded another opportunity next week to restate his case for a rotation spot.
-
Bennett Sousa HOU RP
Astros' Bennett Sousa: Expected back Saturday
40m agoSousa (oblique) is likely to be activated from the injured list Saturday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Sousa was cleared to begin a rehab assignment April 11 and has since made three appearances in the minors, posting a 9:1 K:BB across 3.2 shutout innings. The 31-year-old lefty will presumably take on a high-leverage role after posting a 2.84 ERA in 50.2 innings last season, and he could be in the mix for saves while Josh Hader (biceps) is on the IL.
-
Raisel Iglesias ATL RP
Braves' Raisel Iglesias: On track for minimum IL stay
1h agoAtlanta manager Walt Weiss said Friday that Iglesias (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing, but the club is happy with his progress and hopes to activate him May 5 when he's first eligible, Grant McAuley of the Marietta Daily Journal reports.
It will be tough to get a more accurate gauge on Iglesias' timeline until he is able to throw again without issue, but the club remains confident its closer won't be out long. Robert Suarez is filling in as Atlanta's ninth-inning man while Iglesias is on the mend from right shoulder inflammation.
-
Sammy Peralta COL RP
Rockies' Sammy Peralta: Recalled from Triple-A
3h agoThe Rockies recalled Peralta from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
Peralta has collected a 3.72 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with seven strikeouts over 9.2 innings in the bullpen at Albuquerque this season. The left-hander will provide the Rockies with a fresh relief arm.
-
Jeff Hoffman TOR RP
Blue Jays' Jeff Hoffman: Drops to closer committee
3h agoGM Ross Atkins announced Friday that Hoffman could still see occasional save chances but will no longer be the primary closer as the Blue Jays shift to a committee approach, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Manager John Schneider was noncommittal to Hoffman as Toronto's closer earlier this week after nearly blowing his fourth save of the season, so it's not a major surprise the club is making a change. It doesn't appear to be a full demotion for the 33-year-old right-hander, who recorded 33 saves with a 4.37 ERA during the 2025 regular season, but it also wouldn't be surprising for him to get some work in lower-leverage spots. Hoffman has surrendered nine earned runs with a 24:6 K:BB across 10.2 innings this year. Louis Varland was the only other player mentioned as a potential closer, but the Blue Jays are also expected to utilize some other arms for the ninth inning.
-
Ian Hamilton ATL RP
Braves' Ian Hamilton: Sent outright to Triple-A
3h agoAtlanta outrighted Hamilton to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Hamilton was removed from the 40-man roster after giving up three runs in his lone appearance in the majors. Since he's been outrighted previously, Hamilton has the ability to decline the assignment and become a free agent, but it's unclear what his plans are.
-
Jose Espada BAL RP
Orioles' Jose Espada: Sent back to Triple-A
3h agoThe Orioles optioned Espada to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.
Espada spent 48 hours with the big club but didn't get into any game action. The 29-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 7:9 K:BB across 10 innings with Norfolk this season.
-
Josh Bell MIN DH
Twins' Josh Bell: Taking seat Friday
26m agoBell is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
The veteran slugger started the previous 16 games and will receive a day off after posting a .267/.333/.350 slash line during that span. Byron Buxton is resting his legs as the designated hitter in Bell's absence, which opens up center field for Austin Martin.
-
Luken Baker ARI DH
Diamondbacks' Luken Baker: Returns to Diamondbacks
1d agoThe Diamondbacks re-signed Baker to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Alex D'Agostino of SI.com reports.
Baker elected to hit the open market after being designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on April 18. He'll now rejoin Reno, where he has a .222/.383/.389 slash line in 47 plate appearances this year.
-
Shohei Ohtani LAD DH
Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Pitches great, quiet at plate
2d agoOhtani scattered five hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over six scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Wednesday. He also went 0-for-4 with a strikeout as a batter.
Ohtani continues to dominate on the mound this season -- he's allowed just two runs (one earned) over 24 innings so far, good for a 0.38 ERA. He's added a 25:6 K:BB and 0.75 WHIP. He wasn't able to get any run support in this contest, nor did he help his own cause as his 53-game on-base streak came to a close. Ohtani hasn't quite been himself at the plate yet this year with a .258/.382/.472 slash line, five home runs, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored and one stolen base over 24 contests as a hitter this season. Yordan Alvarez HOU DH
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Stays hot with 11th homer
2d agoAlvarez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Guardians.
Alvarez took Tanner Bibee deep in the first inning after a Carlos Correa double to lead off the game, and that proved to be the only offense either pitching staff would allow on the afternoon. Alvarez has quickly erased the stink of a disappointing, injury-marred 2025 season, and through his first 26 games in the current campaign, he leads the majors with 11 homers and 26 RBI to go along with a sizzling .347/.466/.779 slash line.

Eloy Jimenez TOR DH
Blue Jays' Eloy Jimenez: Hitting bench Wednesday
2d agoJimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Following a stretch of four consecutive starts at designated hitter, Jimenez will take a seat for the series finale while Vladimir Guerrero covers the DH spot and Lenyn Sosa enters the lineup at first base. Since being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on April 12, Jimenez has gone 8-for-21 (.381 average) with three walks against four strikeouts, but his opportunities remain likely to dry up once the Blue Jays get either of George Springer (toe) or Addison Barger (ankle) back from the injured list.
