The purpose of Ada-Belgium is to be a forum for persons and organizations interested in the Ada programming language, in its applications and in Ada related technologies such as software engineering methods, environments and tools.

Ada-Belgium is a non-profit organization ran by volunteers, and a member of Ada-Europe, the European federation of national Ada organizations.

Ada is a modern programming language designed for large, long-lived applications where reliability, efficiency and safety are critical. It's the technology to consider for mission-critical software.

Ada-Belgium activities

• Organizing the following kind of events:
  • an annual General Assembly (in first half of year);
  • workshops and tutorials on Ada related topics;
  • a series of technical presentations on specific techniques, and on the use of Ada in "new" sectors;
  • regular Ada-Belgium Board meetings (by invitation only);
  • a multi-week "Learn Ada" evening programming course;
  • an Ada programming contest;
  • an annual one-day Seminar (depending on available volunteers);
  • an Ada Exhibition (depending on level of interest).

  Check out the Ada-Belgium Meetings and Conferences page for more information on events, such as the technical presentation "An Invitation to Ada 2005" on Thursday March 18, 2004, and the full-day Ada developers' room at FOSDEM'2006 on Sunday February 26, 2006. Other highlights were the bi-weekly Ada course in Q1 2001, and the 6th International Conference on Reliable Software Technologies - Ada-Europe'2001 in Leuven during the week of May 14-18, 2001.

• Running two e-mail lists:
  • a discussion list for members only, and
  • an announcements list for anyone interested.
  Feel free to join.

• Managing an Ada archive for Belgium with a GNAT mirror, a full copy of the "Ada and Software Engineering Library" (ASE2), free Ada Software provided by Belgian Ada users, etc.

• Dissemination of information, such as on
  • conferences and events of interest for Ada users,
  • Ada job announcements,
  • the dead of lead Ada 83 designer Jean Ichbiah,
  • Ada-Europe's press release "Technical Work on Ada 2005 Standard Completed",
  • improvements considered for Ada 2005 (status June 2004),
  • Ada education and training,
  • Ada success stories,
  • final status of the Ada9X project,
  • Software Patents in Europe.

• Representation of Belgium in Ada-Europe, ACM SIGAda, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC22/WG9, and the international Ada community.

• Publication of the Ada-Belgium Newsletter (3 issues per year), including a special issue with the proceedings of the annual seminar.
  (Put on hold due to our increased Internet usage and decreased number of printed contributions, plus the work on and distribution of Ada-Europe's Ada User Journal to all our members; contact me if you would like to submit a technical paper, success story, conference report, etc., for publication in a newsletter issue, on our Web-server, or in the Ada User Journal.)
