They also went above and beyond and took the initiative to build an admin dashboard so that we could add/remove products to the product database and search database easily

Ensuring that the acceptance criteria for each feature are agreed upon would ensure that expectations on both sides are met and kept (this is an improvement that I am taking away as a learning too)
