    Also known as the Japan Railways Group. Successor to Japanese National Railways (JNR) since 1987.

    Japan Railways Group or the JR Group (JRグループ) is a rail company that manages rail transport across Japan. JR took over Japan National Railways on 1 April 1987. Like its predecessor, JR operates the Shinkansen High Speed Rail Network.

    Divisions

    JR Rail is divided into seven groups.

    • JR Central
    • JR East
    • JR West
    • JR Hokkaido
    • JR Kyushu
    • JR Shikoku
    • JR Freight
