語源

from 中期英語 Mendepe, possibly via Anglo-Norman *Mendepe. The exact origin is uncertain; possibly a hybrid of Proto-Brythonic *mönɨð, (“mountain”) and 古期英語 yppe, (“upland hill” or “hunting upland”), possibly reconstructed as 古期英語 *myned-yppe. Alternatively, a medieval folk form includes 中期英語 Myne-deepes (“mine-deeps”). + hills.
