1. (zoology) Any insect of the beaded lacewing family, Berothidae.

     In about one to three minutes, the termite collapses, paralyzed. After waiting another minute or so, the berothid moves in to feed at its leisure, which it can afford to do, since the termite remains motionless and paralyzed for up to three hours, whereupon it expires whether it's eaten or not.
