Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Delayed to 2026
Needs More Time For "Performance Adjustments"
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, the Nintendo Switch 2 port of FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed soulslike, is delayed to 2026. In a Twitter (X) post on October 23, the developers stated that the launch was pushed back as they needed more time for "performance adjustments."
The Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is the definitive version of the original game, which includes the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and a new Tarnished pack that contains two new starting classes, weapons, armor sets, and more.
While the Tarnished pack is also coming as a DLC to other platforms, FromSoftware also noted that its release will be delayed to next year. The developers have yet to announce a specific release date or window for the Tarnished Edition.
Mixed Fan Reactions
Over at r/Eldenring, most fans noted that they expected the delay due to multiple reports of the game having poor optimization. In a report by Nintendo Life in August 2025, it stated that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition’s performance was concerning based on its preview at Gamescom 2025.
According to their reporter, who experienced the demo firsthand at the event, the visuals for the game "looked good." However, the handheld mode struggles with frame rate, topping out at only 30fps, and even drops as low as 15fps.
Aside from the delay of the Switch 2 port, fans were also disappointed about the Tarnished pack being pushed back on other platforms. Some players said that they were holding back on another playthrough, anticipating the new weapons and classes the DLC has.
Another concern that fans of the genre have is with FromSoftware’s other upcoming Switch 2 title, Duskbloods. They fear that the Tarnished Edition’s delay may also indicate that Duskbloods could also suffer the same fate, but the studio has yet to discuss anything regarding its release.
Unfortunate as the news may be, some fans view this as positive, as they prefer studios to be upfront about the status of their games rather than having something unpolished and unoptimized at launch.
Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Its Tarnished Edition is being developed for the Nintendo Switch 2, and is set to be released sometime in 2026. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below.
