In the competitor route just go up and talk to him. Afterwards he'll go into the pod himself. In the non competitor route talk to him but tell him to go in first! ^^

I haven't tested out the build with any phones in particular I'm so sorry this happened T-T (A lot of the sprites are normally a lil zoomed hehe in so thats normal and some of the text where he's muttering is also meant to be small but it's probably too small for phone devices I'll definitely look into that though I can see the background might be a bit darker than it's supposed too hmm)
Could you specify the web browser you were using and whether you were using andriod or ios? So sorry for the inconvenience! >_<;; If it's android I might just look into making an android build instead so I can adjust things better for it heh
