Abstract
There is provided a process for preparing an aerosolisable formulation comprising (i) water in an amount of at least 70 wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation; (ii) one or more flavours; (iii) one or more cyclodextrins; and (iv) nicotine; the process comprising the steps of (a) contacting water, the one or more cyclodextrins and nicotine to form an initial cyclodextrin composition; and (b) subsequently contacting the initial cyclodextrin compositions with the one or for flavours. Said aerosolisable formulations are intended for use in electronic aerosol delivery systems, such as e-cigarettes, for inhalation by a user.
Claims (13)
1. CLAIMS 5 1. A process for preparing an aerosolisable formulation comprising (i) water in an amount of at least 70 wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation ; (ii) one or more flavours; (iii) one or more cyclodextrins for encapsulating the one or more flavours; and (iv) nicotine; 10 the process comprising the steps of (a) contacting water, the one or more cyclodextrins and nicotine to form an initial cyclodextrin composition; (b) subsequently contacting the initial cyclodextrin composition with the one or more flavours.
2. The process according to claim 1, wherein water is present in an amount of at least 75 wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.
3. The process according to claim 1 or 2, wherein water is present in an amount of at 20 least 90 wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.
4. The process according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the one or more flavours are selected from the group consisting of (4-(para-)methoxyphenyl)butanone, vanillin, ?- undecalactone, menthone, 5-propenyl guaethol, menthol, para-menthathiolone and 25 mixtures thereof.
5. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the flavour is at least menthol. 30
6. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 5 wherein the one or more flavours are present in a total amount of no greater than 2wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.
7. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 6 wherein the one or more flavours 35 are present in a total amount of from 0.01 to 1wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.

The process according to any one of claims 1 to 7 wherein the one or more cyclodextrins are selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted (a)- cyclodextrin, substituted or unsubstituted (ß)-cyclodextrin, substituted or unsubstituted ( ?)- cyclodextrin, and mixtures thereof. 5
9. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 8 wherein the one or more cyclodextrins is at least 2 -hydroxy -propyl -ß -cyclodextrin.
10. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 9 wherein the one or more cyclodextrins are present in a total amount of no greater than 10wt.% based on the 10 aerosolisable formulation.
11. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 10 wherein the one or more cyclodextrins are present in a total amount of from 2 to 9 wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.
12. The process according to any one of claims 1 to 11 wherein nicotine is present in an amount of no greater than 1.8wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.
13. The process according to claim 12 wherein nicotine is present in an amount of from 20 0.1 to 1wt.% based on the aerosolisable formulation.
