Abstract

Disclosed is a patient interface for breathing or respiratory disorder treatment while the patient is sleeping that provides extended patient comfort and is easier to clean and wash. The patient interface or mask provides sealed delivery of a flow of air at a continuously positive pressure with respect to ambient air pressure to an entrance to a patient's airways including at least an entrance of the patient's nares, wherein the patient interface is configured to maintain a therapy pressure in a range of about 4 cmH2O to about 30 cmH2O above ambient air pressure in use, throughout the patient's respiratory cycle; where the patient interface has a textile frame having a predetermined three-dimensional shape that is maintained throughout the patient’s respiratory cycle; a seal-forming structure provided to the frame to form a seal with the patient’s nose and/or mouth; and a positioning and stabilising structure to hold the seal-forming structure in sealing position in use. At least a portion of the positioning and stabilising structure including a textile material, and the seal-forming structure includes a foam material and/or a textile material, where the textile material of the positioning and stabilising structure is integrated or provides an interface with the seal-forming structure and/or the frame. The seal-forming structure includes a nasal cushion to form a seal around a lower portion of the patient’s nose below the patient’s nasal bridge, and a mouth cushion to form a seal around at least a portion of the patient’s mouth at least along the sides of the mouth and along the lower lip/chin region.

Claims (8)

1. A patient interface for sealed delivery of a flow of air at a continuously positive pressure with respect to ambient air pressure to an entrance to a patient's airways including at least an entrance of the patient's nares, wherein the patient interface is configured to maintain a therapy pressure in a range of about 4 cmH2O to about 30 cmH2O above ambient air pressure in use, throughout the patient's respiratory cycle, while the patient is sleeping, to ameliorate sleep disordered breathing; said patient interface comprising: a textile frame having a predetermined three-dimensional shape that is maintained throughout the patient’s respiratory cycle; a seal-forming structure provided to the frame, the seal-forming structure configured and arranged to form a seal with the patient’s nose and/or mouth; and a positioning and stabilising structure to hold the seal-forming structure in sealing position in use, at least a portion of the positioning and stabilising structure including a textile material, wherein the seal-forming structure includes a foam material and/or a textile material, wherein the textile material of the positioning and stabilising structure is integrated or provides an interface with the seal-forming structure and/or the frame, wherein the seal-forming structure includes a nasal cushion configured and arranged to form a seal around a lower portion of the patient’s nose below the patient’s nasal bridge, and wherein the seal-forming structure further includes a mouth cushion configured and arranged to form a seal around at least a portion of the patient’s mouth at least along the sides of the mouth and along the lower lip/chin region.
2. The patient interface according to claim 1, wherein the frame is formed into the predetermined three-dimensional shape by joining pieces of textile material together or thermoforming a textile material.
3. The patient interface according to any one of claims 1 to 2, wherein the frame is structured to impart a predetermined three-dimensional shape to the seal-forming structure.
4. The patient interface according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the nasal cushion comprises said foam material and said textile material and the mouth cushion comprises said foam material.
5. The patient interface according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the frame and the seal-forming structure cooperate to form a plenum chamber.
6. The patient interface according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the frame provides an interface with an air delivery tube and the positioning and stabilising structure.
7. The patient interface according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the positioning and stabilising structure includes upper side straps each arranged to extend between the patient's ear and eye and provide an upper force vector that extends upwardly at an angle with respect to the Frankfort horizontal line, and wherein the positioning and stabilising structure includes lower side straps each arranged to extend below the patient's ear and provide a lower force vector that extends generally parallel to the Frankfort horizontal line.
8. The patient interface according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the frame includes a 4-point connection to the positioning and stabilising structure.
