Abstract

263,367. Cleaves, L. B. April 9, 1926. Branches and mains, connecting.- Apparatus for connecting a branch pipe to a main 1 under pressure comprises a split sleeve 2 provided with an integral branch 3 adapted at its outer end to receive a drill housing 18 and subsequently the subsidiary pipe, and a plug valve 14, operated by screw means, which mav be withdrawn into a housing 4 or projected to close the branch, the free end of the plug in the projected position entering a recess 12 in the opposite side of the branch which also forms a pocket to receive drill cuttings. The sleeve 2 is provided with annular recesses 9 for the reception of packing, while the drill housing is formed with a series of stepped and internally screwed shoulders 21, 22, 23 to fit branches of different diameter.
