以下、本発明の構成について詳述する。
本発明に係る一般式（１）の化合物およびその塩は公知の物質であり、グアヤコールとアルキルクロリドとのフリーデルクラフツ（Ｆｒｉｅｄｅｌ−Ｃｒａｆｔｓ）反応あるいはグアヤコールとアルキルカルボン酸クロリドとのフリーデルクラフツ（Ｆｒｉｅｄｅｌ−Ｃｒａｆｔｓ）反応とその生成物の還元等により製造することができる。

上記の本発明化合物は、所望によりナトリウム塩、カリウム塩、アンモニウム塩、マグネシウム塩、カルシウム塩等の無機塩、あるいはモノエタノールアミン、ジエタノールアミン、トリエタノールアミン、ジシクロヘキシルアミン等の有機塩とすることができる。

本発明の皮膚外用剤は、このようにして得られた化合物およびその塩を少なくとも１種以上含有し、その配合量は皮膚外用剤全量中、０．００１〜２０．０重量％、好ましくは０．０１〜１０．０重量％、特に好ましくは ０．１〜７．０重量％である。０．００１重量％未満では皮膚美白効果に乏しく、２０．０重量％を越えて配合しても効果の増加は望めない。

本発明の皮膚外用剤は、それぞれ常法により種々の形態に調製することができるが、一般にはクリーム状、軟膏状、ゲル状、ローション状、乳液状、スティック状、パック状、有機溶媒による溶液状等にすることが好ましい。

本発明の皮膚外用剤には上記した必須構成成分の他に、通常化粧品や医薬品等の皮膚外用剤に用いられる他の成分、例えば、粉末成分、液体油脂、固体油脂、ロウ、炭化水素、高級脂肪酸、高級アルコール、エステル類、シリコーン、アニオン界面活性剤、カチオン界面活性剤、両性界面活性剤、非イオン界面活性剤、保湿剤、水溶性高分子化合物、増粘剤、皮膜剤、紫外線吸収剤、金属イオン封鎖剤、低級アルコール、多価アルコール、糖類、アミノ酸類、有機アミン類、合成樹脂エマルジョン、ｐＨ調整剤、皮膚栄養剤、ビタミン類、酸化防止剤、酸化防止助剤、香料、水等を必要に応じて適宜配合することができる。これらの成分はそれぞれ一種を用いてもよいし、二種以上を用いてもよい。
