本発明は、トリム部と中空シール部とを備えた自動車用のウエザストリップに関し、特にウエザストリップのコーナー部位及び端末部位の加工方法に係るものである。

【従来の技術】
図10に示すように、自動車20のドア開口部21周縁に装着されるウエザストリップ50は、図11〜図16に示すように、断面略U字状のトリム部51と該トリム部51にループ両端52a,52bが固着された断面ループ状の中空シール部52とを備えた押出成形体53を押出成形した後、押出成形体53のコーナー部位及び端末部位を加工して完成される。

ドア開口部21周縁のコーナー部に沿って曲げるべき押出成形体53のコーナー部位Cでは、図11に示すように、曲げたときに仮想曲げ中心(図示略)と当該コーナー部位Cとを結ぶ半径方向で内周側となる中空シール部52の内周部分52cを残して、外周側となる中空シール部52の外周部分52dを切除する。この押出成形体53のコーナー部位Cを曲げて型成形装置(図示略)にセットし、図12、図13及び図14に示すように、切除した外周部分52dに置き代わる型成形部54を型成形すると同時に、この型成形部54を残しておいた内周部分52cに型接続する。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
ところが、従来のウエザストリップ50には次のような問題があった。
押出成形体53のコーナー部位Cを曲げて型成形装置にセットする際に、残しておいた中空シール部52の内周部分52cが曲げによって縮むため、図13に示すように、内周部分52cに皺56が発生しやすかった。この皺56は、見栄えを悪化させたりシール性を低下させたりする不具合があった。
なお、内周部分52cを残さずに、コーナー部位Cの中空シール部52を全部切除し、その全部を型成形で置き代えるように形成すれば、上記皺56の問題は生じないが、型構造が複雑になり、実用的ではない。

また、押出成形体53の端末部位Tで、中空シール部52をトリム部51側へ押し潰すと、図15(b)及び図16に示すように、ループ両端52a,52bは互いに反対方向に倒れて広がり、その倒れた部分に中空シール部52の上部が折り重なる。このため、その後はみ出し部分52e,52fを切除したとしても、押し潰した中空シール部52には一重の部分と前記折り重なりによる二重の部分とができ、両部分の境に段差57が発生する。そして、特にウエザストリップ50の内周側に発生した段差57は、目につきやすいため、見栄えを悪くする不具合があった。また、はみ出し部分52e,52fは必ず二箇所に生じるので、切除の手間も二箇所分かかっていた。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記課題を解決するために、請求項1の発明では、一対の側壁と連結壁とからなる断面略U字状のトリム部と該トリム部の一方の側壁にループ両端が固着された断面ループ状の中空シール部とを備えた押出成形体を押出成形し、該押出成形体の端末部位では、中空シール部をトリム部側へ押し潰すウエザストリップの端末部位加工方法において、前記トリム部の側壁の開口縁から連結壁へ向かう方向をA方向とするとともに、逆に連結壁から側壁の開口縁へ向かう方向をB方向とし、前記中空シール部を前記トリム部側へ押し潰す前の自然状態においては、中空シール部の一側部分は連結壁の外表面よりA方向へ飛び出しており、前記中空シール部を前記トリム部側へ押し潰す前に、前記中空シール部の他方のループ端の近傍部分を切除し、前記中空シール部と前記トリム部との対峙面に接着剤を塗布した後、前記中空シール部をB方向へ押圧して寄せた状態にして前記中空シール部を前記トリム部側へ押し潰して前記接着剤により接着することにより、押し潰し後の中空シール部が連結壁の外表面からA方向へはみ出さないようにすることを特徴としている。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明を実施したウエザストリップの形態例を図面に基づいて説明する。本実施形態例のウエザストリップ1は、図10及び図4に示すように、自動車20のドア開口部21周縁の上半部に取り付けられて、ドアサッシュ23との間をシールするためのものである。

このウエザストリップ1を製造するには、まず、図1に示すように、断面略U字状のトリム部2と該トリム部2にループ両端3a,3bが固着された断面ループ状の中空シール部3とを備えた押出成形体4を押出成形する(図1では既に曲げてあるが、勿論真直に押し出される)。図4に示すように、トリム部2はEPDMソリッドゴム材料により押出成形し、その際に補強用インサート5を埋設する。補強用インサート5は、板金を略柵形状にプレス加工してから断面略U字状に湾曲してなるものである。トリム部2の一方の側壁2aの内面に複数の凸条の保持リップ6を、他方の側壁2bの内面に舌状の保持リップ7をそれぞれ同時成形する。また、中空シール部3はEPDMスポンジゴム材料により前記トリム部2と同時に共押出成形する。

前記型成形装置にEPDMスポンジゴム材料を注入して、図2、図3及び図4に示すように、切除した中空シール部3の外周部分3dに置き代わる型成形部8を型成形すると同時に、該型成形部8を残しておいた中空シール部3の内周部分3cに型接続する。この型成形部8の断面形状は、端部では切除した中空シール部3の外周部分3dと略一致しているが、中央部ではドアサッシュのコーナー形状に合うように外周側が角張っており、その角張った部分は裏側でトリム部2より離れて開口している。

上記のように、中空シール部3の内周部分3cを中立面Nの近傍へ又は中立面Nより外周側へ寄せた状態で、型成形部8を型成形し内周部分3cに型接続することにより、内周部分3cに皺が発生するのを防止でき、皺による見栄えの悪化やシール性の低下は起こらない。

次に、押出成形体4の端末部位Tでは、図5(a)(b)に示すように、中空シール部3のループ端3bの近傍部分3eを切除し、該切除部分から、対峙している中空シール部3の内面とトリム部2の側壁2aの外面との少なくとも一方に、例えばシアノアクリレート系の接着剤9を塗布する。

図6及び図7に示すように、下型11及び上型12をヒンジ13で枢着してなる寄せ型10と、分離可能な下型16及び上型17からなる潰し型15とを、後者が押出成形体4の最端末側となるように隣り合わせて設け、下型11,16の薄板部14,18にトリム部2を嵌めることにより、開いた両型10,15に押出成形体4の端末部位Tをセットする。そして、寄せ型10の上型12を降ろすことにより、一方のループ端3aを他方のループ端3b方向へ倒すようにして、中空シール部3を同方向へ寄せる。なお、近傍部分3eを切除した中空シール部3の最端末は潰し型15のみにかかり、寄せ型10には、切除していない中空シール部3の内寄り部分がかかる。この状態で、潰し型15の上型17を降ろすことにより、図5(c)及び図8に示すように、中空シール部3の最端末をトリム部2側へ押し潰して前記接着剤9により接着する。このとき、前記近傍部分3eの切除によって、中空シール部3の切除縁は、丁度、トリム部2の側壁2aの開口縁と一致するようになっている。

上記のように、一方のループ端3aを他方のループ端3b方向へ倒すようにして、中空シール部3を同方向へ寄せた状態で、中空シール部3の最端末をトリム部2側へ押し潰すので、ループ端3a付近の中空シール部3は奇麗な一重になり、従来のような段差は発生しない。このループ端3a付近は、ウエザストリップ50の内周側にあって目につきやすいが、段差を無くせるので見栄えの悪化を防止できる。また、近傍部分3eの切除によって、他方のループ端3b付近の中空シール部3も一重になり、段差は発生しない。

また、前記中空シール部3の寄せと、前記近傍部分3eの切除とによって、中空シール部3は押し潰したときにトリム部51の両縁からはみ出さないため、その後のはみ出し部分の切除は不要になる。従って、端末部位Tでの切除の手間は、近傍部分3eの切除の一回だけで済む。
