周知のように、ケ−ソン工事に於いて、沈下の進行に伴い艤装工として図1に示すようにマンロックa及びマテリアルロックbとシャフトcの継足しが行なわれる。

圧気作業中にシャフトcの継足しを行う場合、ケ−ソンdの作業室内(函内)は断気せずにシャフト内のみ断気して大気圧下で継足しを行うため、ケ−ソンのマンロックシャフトeのマンホールをボトムドアで密封封鎖して作業室とシャフトcとを遮断してシャフト内のみ断気する。
