Description
Claims (14)
- 第1の基板と、
前記第1の基板と一定間隔の間隙を形成して対峙する第2の基板と、
前記間隙に閉じた空間である画素空間を少なくとも1つ形成し、前記第1の基板と前記第2の基板と共に該画素空間の境界を構成する隔壁部と、
前記画素空間中の前記第1の基板上に形成されている第1の電極と、
前記画素空間中の前記第2の基板上に形成されている第2の電極と、
前記画素空間に封入されている正の電荷を有する正帯電微粒子と、
前記画素空間に封入されている負の電荷を有する負帯電微粒子と、
前記第1の電極にソース電極が接続されている薄膜トランジスタと、
前記薄膜トランジスタを選択的にON状態にする走査信号電圧を、前記薄膜トランジスタのゲート電極に供給する走査線と、
前記正帯電微粒子及び前記負帯電微粒子を泳動させるデータ信号電圧を、前記薄膜トランジスタのドレイン電極に供給する信号線と、
を含む表示部と、
前記走査線に前記走査信号電圧を印加する走査信号電圧印加部と、
前記信号線に前記データ信号電圧を印加するデータ信号電圧印加部であって、前記データ信号電圧は、
前記表示部に画像を表示させるための書込み信号電圧と、
前記書込み信号電圧から前記表示部の表示状態を維持するための保持信号電圧へ段階的に電圧が変化する書込み後信号電圧と、
を含むデータ信号電圧印加部と、
を具備し、
前記走査信号電圧印加部は、前記データ信号電圧が前記保持信号電圧へ移行した後、前記表示部の前記表示状態を維持する保持動作の間、前記保持信号電圧と異なる電位の、予め設定された前記薄膜トランジスタをOFF状態にする走査信号電圧を前記走査線に印加することを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記データ信号電圧印加部は、複数フレーム期間にわたって前記書込み後信号電圧を印加することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記第2の電極にコモン電圧を印加するコモン電圧印加部を具備することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記データ信号電圧は、前記コモン電圧を基準として正電圧と負電圧が交互に複数回繰り返される書込み前信号電圧を含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記隔壁部は、複数の前記画素空間を形成し、
前記信号電圧印加部は、複数の前記第1の電極に一斉に前記書込み前信号電圧を印加することを特徴とする請求項4に記載の電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記正帯電微粒子の表面の色と前記負帯電微粒子の表面の色とは、異なることを特徴とする請求項1乃至5のうちいずれか1項に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記正帯電微粒子の表面の色は黒色であり、前記負帯電微粒子の表面の色は白色であることを特徴とする請求項6に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記黒色の正帯電微粒子の直径は、前記白色の負帯電微粒子の直径よりも大きいことを特徴とする請求項7に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記表示部は、前記画素空間に封入されている分散材を含むことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記分散材の誘電率は、前記正帯電微粒子及び前記負帯電微粒子の誘電率よりも低いことを特徴とする請求項9に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 前記隔壁部は、複数の第1の電極からなる複数の画素を個別に隔離するため、前記薄膜トランジスタ、前記走査線及び前記信号線の上から前記第2の基板に向けて、前記第1の電極を囲うように立設されていることを特徴とする請求項1乃至10のうちいずれか1項に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 閉じた空間である画素空間に封入されている分散材中の帯電粒子を電気泳動させて画像を表示する表示部を駆動する、電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法であって、
前記画素空間のコモン電極にコモン電圧を印加するステップと、
前記コモン電圧を印加している期間中に、前記画素空間の画素電極に画像を表示させるための書込み信号電圧を印加するステップと、
前記コモン電圧を印加している期間中に、前記画素電極に前記書込み信号電圧から前記表示部の表示状態を維持するための保持信号電圧へ段階的に電圧が変化する書込み後信号電圧を印加するステップと、
前記画素電極の電圧が前記保持信号電圧へ移行した後、前記保持信号電圧と異なる電位の、予め設定された薄膜トランジスタをOFF状態にする走査信号電圧を走査線に印加するステップと、
を含むことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記書込み信号電圧の印加の前に、前記画素電極に前記コモン電圧を基準として所定の正電圧と負電圧が交互に所定の回数繰り返す書込み前信号電圧を印加するステップと、を含むことを特徴とする請求項12に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記画素空間は複数形成されており、
前記書込み前信号電圧は、複数の前記画素電極に一斉に印加されることを特徴とする請求項13に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
