次に上記構成の出没式筆記具1及び先端カバー40について、特徴的な作用効果を詳細に説明する。
先ず、出没式筆記具1の先端側に先端カバー40を装着する場合、図2に示すように、出没式筆記具1先端の開口部10aに対し前方側から先端カバー40を接近し、先端カバー40の複数の撓み片部42aを指で摘まむようにして狭め開口部10aへ挿入する。
この際、両側の撓み片部42a,42aを指で摘まんで撓ませ、その先端側を開口部10aに挿入した後に、その指を後ろ側にずらせば、その指が、両側の平坦面部41b,41bに接触する。このため、作業者等は、摘み部41を安定的に摘まんで、先端カバー40を開口部10a内へ押し込むことができる。
そして、開口部10a内へ挿入された撓み片部42aは、軸筒径方向外側へ弾性的に復元して、縮径面12aを含む先口部12の内周面に接触する(図4(a)参照)。

なお、縮径面61aの他例としては、階段状に縮径する面とすることも可能である。

先端カバー100を後方へ押し込めば、複数の撓み片部121が、軸筒径方向外側へ弾性的に復元して、縮径面61a等、先口部61の内周面に接触する(図7参照)。
