There were disadvantages such as the mechanism or operation was such that it was easy to damage the lamp wick, and the operation was unstable.

The bottles at both ends of the annular movable gasket made of elastic material such as rubber or synthetic resin are inserted into the long holes formed in the movable ring and the fixed ring, and the wick holder is rotated and raised to raise the wick, and the wick holder is removed. The movable ring is rotated through the engagement between the leaf spring and the movable ring, and the pins at both ends of the movable gasket are actuated to open it. In this state, the leaf spring comes off from the movable ring and only the lamp wick rises. When extinguishing a fire, when the wick is lowered, a leaf spring engages with a movable ring to rotate the movable ring and close the movable gasket above the wick.

The connecting plate moves horizontally via the driven shaft, and the connecting piece at the upper end can open and close the top surface of the lamp wick.
Since the connecting plate has a rectangular cross-sectional shape and is constructed of a single plate, dimensional control can be performed accurately, and one drive end can be secured between the drive shaft, the drive slot, and the guide slot of the guide plate. It operates to open and close by engaging the drive shaft at one end, and the slightly movable end at the other end is driven by the engagement between the driven shaft and the small elongated hole in the guide plate, so it is easy to open and close by operating the drive shaft at one end. This can be done reliably, and the vertical movement of the wick is reliably linked to the opening and closing of the connecting plate, and especially when the wick is lowered, the connecting plate is reliably linked to close when the wick is lowered. As a result, the wick is less likely to be damaged by the operation of the connecting plate, and stable operation can be achieved.
