Conventionally, it has been known to treat various types of plastics with ultraviolet light for the purpose of surface modification, but when this ultraviolet treatment is carried out in the air, oxygen in the air inhibits the crosslinking reaction.
Furthermore, due to energy loss due to air existing between the ultraviolet lamp and the object to be treated, there are disadvantages in that the treatment effect is insufficient and the treatment time becomes longer. Therefore, this ultraviolet treatment is often carried out under a vacuum. For example, when treating soft vinyl chloride resin molded products containing internal additives such as plasticizers, it is necessary to irradiate them with ultraviolet light of 200 nm or less. When cross-linking is created on the surface of a material to prevent leaching of plasticizers, etc., the processing time is shorter when this is performed under vacuum compared to processing under atmospheric pressure.
It is reported that it can be reduced to less than 1/10. However, all of these are batch-type products, and it is said that no method or apparatus has been developed for continuous ultraviolet treatment of continuous products such as sheets, films, and electric wires under vacuum.

Regarding this ultraviolet treatment, there is also a known method in which the air in the treatment chamber is replaced with an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon, and the ultraviolet treatment is performed in this inert gas atmosphere in order to avoid the adverse effects of the air mentioned above. However, since this is also a batch type, productivity is low, and it also has the disadvantage of increasing gas consumption.

3 and 4 show examples of the arrangement of ultraviolet lamps in the ultraviolet treatment tank 1 of the ultraviolet treatment apparatus of the present invention, and the ultraviolet treatment tank 101 in FIG. 3 has a built-in rotating drum 102. and
Ultraviolet lamps 104 for irradiating ultraviolet rays onto the workpiece guided onto the rotating drum by guide rolls 103 are arranged in parallel at positions surrounding the drum. FIG. 4 shows another arrangement of ultraviolet lamps, in which an ultraviolet lamp 104 for irradiating ultraviolet rays onto an object is guided by a guide roller 103 and the object to be treated is guided by a guide roller 103 and travels around the tank. They are arranged in multiple columns to illuminate both sides of the screen. Each of these ultraviolet lamps 104 is cooled by a cooling jacket (not shown), which stabilizes the processing effect and prevents thermal deterioration of the object to be processed. .

The ultraviolet treatment device according to the present invention consists of an ultraviolet treatment tank and two preliminary chambers equipped with the above-mentioned sealing mechanism. According to this, the ultraviolet treatment device can continuously perform ultraviolet treatment without exposing the object to the atmosphere. It gives you the advantage of being able to. Then, this ultraviolet treatment tank can be evacuated as necessary, or after being evacuated, an inert gas can be introduced into it to replace the inside of the system with the inert gas. Since the treatment atmosphere can be arbitrarily selected depending on the type of object to be treated and the purpose of the treatment, effective ultraviolet treatment can be applied to a wide range of objects. In addition, the device of the present invention is provided with a preliminary chamber with a sealing mechanism before and after the ultraviolet treatment tank, and the atmosphere of this preliminary chamber can be arbitrarily selected in the same manner as the ultraviolet treatment bath, which is also necessary. Depending on the situation, this can be used as an atmosphere adjustment chamber for the ultraviolet treatment tank with a slightly different atmosphere from that of the ultraviolet treatment tank, so that it is possible to perform continuous treatment in which various treatments are changed in stages. Moreover, since the sealing mechanism in this pre-chamber includes a sealing roll that transports the workpiece forward, it is especially possible to ensure that long continuous objects such as sheets, films, and electric wires are continuously and reliably processed. It can be processed efficiently.
