That is, one glass plate 4 is placed on a lower mold 1, the peripheral part is heated while being pressed with a middle mold 2, and pressure molded with an upper mold 3. In the cover glass formed as shown in FIG. 2, the periphery of the glass plate pressed between the middle mold 2 and the lower mold 1 remains as a flange 5. This flange 5 becomes a big hindrance when trying to widen the display field of view.
As an improvement measure, a box-shaped cover glass as shown in Figure 3 has been proposed. This is a glass strip 7 made by cutting a plate glass around the glass face plate 6,
8, 8', etc. are welded to a fritted glass 9 to form a side wall. Unlike the flanged cover glass shown in Fig. 2, it does not have a flange, so it has the advantage of widening the display field of view. .
However, the major drawback of this box-shaped cover glass is that
The point is that fritted glass must be used to weld the glass strips together and the glass strips to the glass face plate. Since the mechanical strength of frit glass is 1/2 weaker than that of ordinary glass, having such a large number of welded parts of frit glass is poor in reliability.

ーガラスを提供することにある。 The object of the present invention is to provide a glass face plate with a side wall portion without using fritted glass, a convex portion on the end of the glass face plate, and to have a wide field of view equivalent to that of a conventional box-shaped cover glass, that is, to have a flange. The purpose is to provide a cover glass that does not.

る。 The gist of the present invention is to locally heat-weld the individual glass pieces and the periphery of the glass face plate using a lower mold on which the glass face plate and individual glass pieces are placed, and an upper mold provided with small grooves, and to weld the glass pieces and the periphery of the glass face plate locally. The cover glass for display tubes of the present application has no burrs on the edges of the glass face plate, is rounded, does not cause injury to humans, is highly safe, and has excellent appearance and reliability. A box-shaped cover glass can be obtained.

1' is provided, and a convex portion 1 is provided to regulate the inner height of the box-shaped cover glass and to make it easier to place individual pieces of glass.
2 is provided. The convex portion 12 is tapered to facilitate separation of the molded cover glass and the lower mold. Moreover, the inside of the lower mold is hollowed out so as not to heat the entire glass face plate. Upper mold 1
3, a small groove 14 is provided in a portion corresponding to the end of the glass face plate of the cover glass to prevent burrs from forming during molding. The shape of the small groove 14 is not limited to a semicircle or a trapezoid as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, but the same effect can be achieved even if the shape is shown in FIG. 7. Like the lower mold, the upper mold is hollowed out on the inside to avoid heating the entire glass face plate.

etc., and a glass face plate 17 is placed thereon. Cut and prepare the individual glass pieces 15, 16, etc. so that the height is slightly higher than the height of the convex part 12 of the lower mold, and the length of the individual glass pieces is the same as the length of the groove 11. . A glass component is placed, an upper mold 13 is placed thereon, and electrical heating or high frequency heating is performed. Heating is performed in a nitrogen gas atmosphere to prevent oxidation of the carbon mold. These heating methods mainly raise the temperature of only the carbon type, so the glass face plate 1
The flatness of the portion corresponding to the display surface 7 is not impaired in appearance. As the temperature rises, the glass pieces 15,
15' expands due to thermal expansion, and when the temperature reaches the softening temperature of the glass, it is welded to the individual glass pieces 16, 16'.
The individual glass pieces 15, 15', 16, 16' and the glass face plate 17 are welded together by applying pressure to the upper mold 13. When the glass face plate 17 is pressurized, a part of the glass face plate 17 is pushed out into the small groove 14 of the upper mold. As shown in FIG. 9, the molded cover glass has a semicircular end portion of the glass surface corresponding to the display surface, so that a box-shaped cover glass that does not cause injury to humans and has a beautiful appearance can be manufactured.
