If correct, ouls shows the use of the digraph "ou", which is puzzling since long /uː/ is etymologically unexpected for this word. Lindsay argues that "ouls" is not the original spelling in this passage, suggesting that the manuscript forms may result either from misreading of an attempted correction of an original *ols to uls, or incorrect emendation of a misspelling vis.
