1. (of a statement, matter, or thing) Arousing doubt; questionable; open to suspicion.

   After he made some dubious claims about the company, fewer people trusted him.

   They were renowned as people of dubious morals.

使用する際の注意点

Although dubious is largely synonymous with doubtful, there is a notable difference when describing statements or facts: dubious is used when the statement is a cause of doubt, while doubtful is used when a fact is in doubt. For example, “the company’s earnings report was dubious” (questionable) versus “his chances for recovery are doubtful” (uncertain or unlikely). See also doubtable § Usage notes.
