ある。<Outline of the Invention> The present invention has been made to solve the above-mentioned problems, and in a work roll for cold rolling or temper rolling, to limit the range of the optimum chromium plating thickness in relation to the roll roughness. Therefore, a wide range of surface roughness rolls will be achieved by chrome plating, which will significantly extend roll life.

As a result of repeated research, the following findings were obtained.

Therefore, there is a lower limit of the optimum plating thickness, but this value changes depending on the roughness of the roll base material. When the roll roughness is high, it mainly comes into contact with the material to be rolled only in the part where the roughness peak is high,
A thick plating thickness is required, and conversely, when the roll roughness is low, a thick plating thickness is not required.

Since the frictional force is applied only to the matte surface, the roughness of the roll base material does not change, only the matte surface layer is smoothed, and the life cannot be significantly extended.

Become. On the other hand, if the roughness of the roll base material is high, a thick plating thickness is suitable, but if it exceeds a certain fixed plating thickness, peeling of the plating occurs. The plating thickness at which the plating peeling occurs is almost constant regardless of the roll roughness. Therefore, the upper limit of the optimum plating thickness is a function of roll roughness, and a fixed upper limit is set.

As can be seen from this graph, the lower limit of the optimum plating thickness is about 2.5 μm. The upper limit of the optimum plating thickness is 14 μm. This is because the smoothing phenomenon of only the plating layer is observed when the plating thickness is 14 μm, and the plating peeling occurs when the plating thickness is 16 μm.

The test was carried out with a roll in the range of 0.2 to 5 μm, and the range of the plating thickness at which the life extension of 5 times or more was achieved by the chrome plating was determined. The results are shown in FIG. From this graph, the chrome plating thickness (t) is the straight line a, b, c in relation to Ra.
It turns out that it is appropriate to set the range surrounded by. It can be read from the graph that the straight lines a, b, and c can be expressed by the following equations.
